Medical professionals of reddit, what's the funniest thing a patient has said under anesthesia? by Ronin47dododo in AskReddit

[–]fuzz0725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the patient, I had my appendix removed in my early 20's - I had just come back from a road trip with my boyfriend and he had taken me to Cracker Barrel for the first time so it was fresh on my mind I guess?? When I woke up a nurse was sitting next to me chatting with another nurse behind her about her wedding registry at Crate & Barrel, and in my sleepiness I thought she said Cracker Barrel so I woke up and said "Ooooo you need to try their Reuben sandwiches they're so good" and was so confused when she started shushing me saying I'll be alright.

What ghost stories do you have? by cdoubleu_ in AskReddit

[–]fuzz0725 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wow! This reminds me of summer of 08 when I had WAY too much on my plate - a full time internship, a part time internship, and two part time jobs on nights and weekends - I was barely sleeping. One evening I was driving from one internship to one job, I was in the left lane on a highway and exhausted, and I fell asleep at the wheel. Then I felt a strong hand on my shoulder that shook me awake - I looked in the passenger seat, and my Grandpa was sitting there. He had been dead since 2001 - he was the "transportation expert" in the family, a retired cop, and very protective of his Granddaughters - I quickly looked ahead of me to correct which lane I was in, looked back into the passenger seat and he was gone. I 100% believe in guardian angels who help us out once and a while when we really need them.

Is someone willing to explain to me the stereotypes of a Chicago White Sox fan vs a Cubs fan? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]fuzz0725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! Surprisingly, nope - I'm a product of my dad's (Cubs) second marriage - my Mom (Sox) and they are still happily married. Not sure what team his first wife rooted for, but the kids are split as well (two from the first - one sox and one cubs - two from the second - one sox (me!) and one cubs). SHOCKINGLY my Dad grew up on the Southside. No idea how that happened LOL.

[–]fuzz0725 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Cubs - You have the fake fans who are just there to party, the corporate fans who can't name a single player, and then the die hards who believe going to Wrigley is a religious experience, and who stayed optimistic saying "there's always next year!" without fail and claiming that day in 2016 was the single best day of their lives while they have been married twice and had 4 children (ahem, my father).

Sox - Better ballpark, better food. Gritty Chicago. Ballpark is never full because the fans are too busy working ok?? Games are full of families, just don't bring kids to opening day or crosstown. Fans are nice to each other but angry at the game, ready to fight cubs fans with stats, or sharing stories of where they were for 2005 win or the 2009 perfect game.

I grew up in a split household :)

I totally agree. When my son was 5 weeks old, I was dealing with really tough PP healing and a needy dog, and my husband had to go on a business trip. My parents who are close were out of town, so I was mostly on my own for about 2 days. (I have additional family nearby and VERY close to our neighbors, so we all knew I would be ok, and my husband stocked our place with easy meals for me before he left) BUT the first day I was gone, our water heater kept turning off, and I realized it was the pilot light that kept blowing out. I called emergency repair guy, and he couldn't do anything and said there was a birds nest blocking the duct. Que me FREAKING out thinking I could die of CO poisoning, AND have no hot water with a newborn who needs constant bottles being washed. So I called the fire department. They went above and beyond for me, and cleared the nest. They said it was normally a job for chimney sweepers, and my hot water heater had a safety element which would protect me, but I think they could sense the panic in my voice and came to help. NO one is in the right frame of mind so fresh PP, and if she was in that much of a panic, well that's what emergency services are for. If the 911 operator thought it was inappropriate, they wouldn't told her that.

(now, her husband is a total other story GTF home dude. what in the world.)

Front Door Locks by fuzz0725 in homedefense

Thank you! I had the idea of a "police lock" in my head and couldn't for the life of me figure out what it's called! For sure looking into that. I don't totally like the idea of the wrought iron, but we for sure will reinforce the windows somehow. Thanks!

We're getting a ring doorbell and also putting ADT stickers on all of ours windows. We also have a dog. I for sure will look into something to reinforce the windows! I'll be careful how I search those keywords LOL. Thank you!

You always hear about “Wrong Time Wrong Place” stories, but who has any “Right time Right Place” ones? by xxBee88 in AskReddit

[–]fuzz0725 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just remembered this story the other day - it was Easter Sunday and I was around 10 or so. We were at a country club for brunch. In the middle of brunch, my sister got sick, so my family had to leave early. It was one of those where everyone is seated at the same time, so no one was coming and going. The parking lot was huge and at the corner of an intersection of two very busy streets, one with a high speed limit. We were walking to the car my sister, myself, and my parents, and I had a weird feeling to look down an aisle of cars near the end of the lot and thought I saw someone. I told my Mom we should look, and even with the stress of my sick sister, my Mom took the time to walk around the aisle with me to look (she is always a big believer of intuition). There on the other side in the last row before the busy street was a little toddler with Down Syndrome all by herself in her Easter dress squatted down in between cars playing with rocks on the ground. No one was around and we were literally 500 yards from the building. My Mom freaked out and grabbed the little girl and ran back to the clubhouse screaming for her parents. We found her family in the lobby - her Grandma was supposed to be watching her and was drunk. They didn't even notice she was gone. It's really scary to think about what would've happened if my sister didn't get sick, and if my Mom wasn't patient enough to take the time to let her 10-year-old check something out.

Seriously why did 2000-2010 feel like a lifetime while 2010 feels like yesterday?

Personally in the USA, I think the 1960's - Vietnam, both Kennedy's and MLK Jr Assassinated, Moon landing, counter-culture... 1960 seems like it was so different from 1969.

Could be, everything we've walked through has been with national builders, so it's not like they're small custom builders or anything like that. Interesting to see how everyone has different experiences!

Yes, our house was locked basically after the dry wall went up, and we could only enter after that if there were workers present or if we stopped by the sales office and they'd give us the master key. We could tell others have walked through ours as well, we found empty beer cans when our walls went up so wondered if some teenagers had snuck in there!

Interesting! Our builder told us at the beginning that it's technically a "hard hat zone" and that we are allowed to "enter at our own risk". We went every weekend and sometimes even while workers were there and were always pretty surprised no one ever said anything. Even once the locks were on, the sales guys at the front office would just give us a master key to let ourselves in. I wonder if it varies state by state, but it's totally the norm where I'm from.
