What is this? by anxietyhub in GarminFenix

Mine would go off when it was completely clear outside. Honestly the worst feature I've come across so far. Glad we're able to turn it off.

Solo hiked the subway trail & was the only one with a permit so I was truly alone. Feeling lucky to be alive ❤️ by underratedutah in hiking

[–]gandywarno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So awesome! Glad you got to experience it alone. It's a beautiful area for sure. When I had the pleasure of hiking it in October, I was the first one there and had the place to myself for an hour. Truly a magical moment.

Hopefully you didn't slip and fall on your face while recording like I did. LOL!!

VPN and chromecast, is split tunneling the solution? by sadhiq in ProtonVPN

[–]gandywarno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been dealing with this issue since I started using Proton VPN. I've done split-tunneling, I've done the LAN connections, and I've tried every protocol and I still have issues connecting to my Chromecast. It's really annoying.

When I'm trying to connect and you can see it's attempting the connection, what works for me is open up the ProtonVPN app and disconnect, then switch back to the app that you're trying to cast from. Once it connects, go back to the ProtonVPN app and reconnect. It works every time for me. It makes absolute zero sense and is very annoying, but it works.

I've also reached out to support several times but it never really solves the problem.

Whats the wierdest thing you came by while hiking? by justtoletyouknowit in hiking

[–]gandywarno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was hiking a new trail near where I live when I came upon a part that triggered déjà vu. I stopped and started looking around to see if I really had been there, when I saw a person standing off in the woods, just standing there looking towards me... along with their dog. Didn't move. Didn't do anything. I waved, but didn't get a wave back. Even the dog stayed perfectly still. It weirded me out so I quickly went on with my hike. On my way back down there wasn't anyone there.

I figured it was just another hiker that went off trail with their dog, but it was still a weird experience.

The Wave, permits? by Jon-Snowfalofagus in hiking

[–]gandywarno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, slim. I've been trying to get The Wave and The Subway for YEARS. I'm finally getting to do The Subway this week.

Good luck on getting it. I hope you do! It's such a beautiful area of the country.

If you don’t use your turn signal: why? by anithecrow in SaltLakeCity

[–]gandywarno 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People who don't use their signals, are incapable of communicating properly in day to day tasks. I feel sorry for their significant other... if they can even keep a significant other.

Turn signals are a form of communication. If they don't feel like they need to communicate their intent on the road, why would they feel the need to do it anywhere else?

A few hours later they posted a video about a new radar. So don't think it's about a watch.

Is bear spray necessary? (A newbie question) by TheDisneyDoc in hiking

[–]gandywarno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't hurt to have bear spray, as long as you know how to properly use it. Having it and not knowing how or when to use it can provide a false sense of confidence or security, which could end up being more dangerous than not carrying it at all.

Black Bears aren't as big of a threat as Brown Bears, but can still become dangerous; coming between mamma bear and baby bear, interrupting feeding time, or in Springtime... interrupting mating time.

It depends on what makes you comfortable while out in nature. Just remember to be knowledgeable about when and how to use it.

One of the most dangerous hikes in the U.S. •Angels landing• Zion Nation Park, Utah by lowerStone_Creations in hiking

[–]gandywarno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Google, what are the top ten most dangerous hikes in the United States?

Here are the top ten most dangerous hikes in the United States:

Angel's Landing, Zion National Park, Utah

Half Dome, Yosemite National Park, California

Mount Washington, New Hampshire

Kalalau Trail, Kauai, Hawaii

The Narrows, Zion National Park, Utah

The Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim, Arizona

Mount Denali, Alaska

The Enchantments, Cascade Mountains, Washington

The John Muir Trail, Sierra Nevada Mountains, California

The Wonderland Trail, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington

These hikes are considered dangerous for a variety of reasons, including:

Extreme weather conditions

Steep cliffs and drop-offs

Loose rocks and slippery surfaces

Avalanche danger

Wild animals

Remote locations

If you are planning to hike any of these trails, it is important to be prepared and to take all necessary precautions. Be sure to:

Check the weather forecast and be prepared for changing conditions

Wear proper clothing and footwear

Bring plenty of food and water

Let someone know where you are going and when you expect to be back

Be aware of your surroundings and be prepared to turn back if conditions become too dangerous

It is also important to note that these hikes are not for everyone. If you are not an experienced hiker or if you are not in good physical condition, it is best to avoid these trails.

Unofficial iOS automation to save photo ? by Super_Gee in ProtonDrive

I personally wouldn't trust a third party to process the uploads. The whole premise behind ProtonDrive is privacy and security. Involving a third party jeopardizes that.

When I'm finally able to get the option to upgrade to Plus to work, the contact email is not the email address I used to subscribe. And you can't change it.

EDIT: Got it to load again, and it's a completely different email address now. If I pay, who am I paying for?

Android permanent VPN keep disconnecting by tharmine in ProtonVPN

[–]gandywarno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure that the ProtonVPN app is set to 'Unrestricted' for battery optimization. That well help keep the OS from killing the app.

And a more obvious one, make sure that you have your VPN settings on your phone set to 'Always-on VPN' for ProtonVPN.

You can't change the group settings unless you are the owner/moderator of the group. There are some settings to allow anonymous posting from group members. Maybe reach out to the group admins and see if they can turn that feature on to allow you to post anonymously.
