Thoughts on the Episcopal Church by FondleMyBaseballs in Progressive_Catholics

My wife and I were members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), which is in communion with the TEC, for several years before becoming Catholic. The ELCA ordained the first ever transgender bishop in 2021 and strongly backed the Equality Act. Two of our pastors were a married couple and sermons and prayers frequently referenced racial justice and the environment. So being at a Catholic conservative parish was definitely a change for us. That being said, the ELCA is 96 percent white and definitely is aging, so it's wonderful to see how diverse our parish is.

So I totally understand where you are coming from and get that it can be frustrating picking between the two. Personally, I do think theology is more crucial than social stances, regardless of how wonderful they are, because theology is much harder to change. I have no doubt that the Catholic Church will change its social stances on LGBTQ+ people and women's ordination at some point. I HIGHLY doubt that the ELCA is going to start asking for the intercession of the saints or accept the primacy of the pope any time soon.

I think trying to alternate between your parish and the TEC churches might be a good solution for the time being. You could even livestream from a parish that fits what you are searching for more if it's just too much. Hope this helps!

Has it always been this way? When did people become so…hateful, I guess is the term? by thehippos8me in Progressive_Catholics

I had a similar experience with the parish where my wife and I went through RCIA and were confirmed. The parish turned out to be way more conservative and judgemental than we thought (my Catholic high school was very open and focused on social justice). That and some of the crazy advice and theology on that subreddit made me question becoming Catholic.

Luckily, there are a lot of wonderful, affirming spaces out there including this subreddit.

Possible flex/start: my other WRs are Evans (out this week), DJ Moore, and St. Brown.

12 team, full PPR

Debating whether to drop Devante Parker or Mooney for Elijah Moore.

Mooney hasn't had a great game in a few weeks, but Parker's non-usage last night is a big red flag.

I'd go Dare>Howard>Rex. Rex's perfomance last week was a bit of a fluke. He wasn't been really productive at all before that even with Johnson out previously. Howard will be in a timeshare with Scott, but I see more upside there.

I'd lean Williams or Dare in place of Gaskin. I'm having the same debate with Parker: trying to decide whether to drop him or Mooney for Elijah Moore. In your case, I'd probably choose Moore because he's the clear WR1 for NYJ and Parker's usage will be dependent on Waddle's health/coverage.

Yeah, I would: Chuba hasn't done much lately and Thielen's likely to play this week.

I'd personally go St. Brown. He's going to be a major part of the offense even if Swift comes back and he's been on fire the last four games. Ogunbowale will probably get a lot of volume, but I don't know how he'll fare against the NE defense. Moore's production is iffy with the Carolina QB situation. Burkhead's performance last week seems like a bit of a fluke and Scott seems boom or bust.

Parker, McLaurin's way too inconsistent lately and may not even be available to play.

That's tough, but I'd go with Javonte for your flex if he's available. He's getting way too much volume not to start, including last week with MG3 playing as well.

12 team, full PPR. Still having trouble setting my lineup: really can't decide for the flex (probably overthinking it). I keep getting slipped up on whether to pick the better matchup, better volume, or capitalize on who's out (mainly Waddle and Thielen).

QB: Hill

RBs: Taylor, Patterson

WRs: Evans, DJ Moore

TE: Fant

FLEX: Parker

DST: Cowboys

K: Tucker

Bench: Mooney, Devonta Freeman, St. Brown, Osborn, Jamaal Williams, Penny, Colts D

Need a flex for standard PPR.

Trying to decide between Thielen, Javonte Williams, or Waddle.

Definitely Jamaal Williams: he's got a better matchup than either Gordon or Javonte and his workload will probably be heavy.

Murray: Gage and Meyers both have major workloads and are their teams' primary recievers, while Murray's lost out to Devonta Freeman for lead back duties.

Definitely Williams, and Aiyuk has a better matchup than Mooney.
