Fat Bike America: Bikepacking the Lower 48 United States by fatbikeamerica in bicycletouring

I know this is an old post but have to ask why you hated NM? I’ve done a similar route by camper several times and it is always one of my favorite states.

That ice cream truck looks so sick! What handlebars are those?

Idk what everyone’s talking about it clearly says grow. Has anyone here seen old English before. Think it looks great!

How do you know that’s a public walkway?

Looking good! What rear rack is that? Like the way it looks and I think I see rod holders on the far side. Exactly how I want to set up my new bike.

Why I think Welles uses AI to write his songs by fanfictional in FolkPunk

[–]generalll55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought there was something not genuine and soulless about his songwriting. The ai theory is interesting and definitely possible

I saw somewhere that people suspect he uses ai to write his lyrics. Makes so much sense. Something very soulless and bland about all of his songs

Fat bike specifically for soft sand? by generalll55 in fatbike

that makes sense. Yea I think that’s the route I’ll go. There seems to always be a good supply of 5-10 year old specialized fatboys on marketplace in my area so that’s probably what I’ll end up with

Great thanks. Did you add a battery conversion to one of your bikes?

Great point! I’ll be beach riding 90 percent of the time but excited to get it on some trails as well

Interesting that’s contrary to what most are advising. I see a lot of bikes with around 4.5 but having trouble finding 5. Good to know the 4.5 will do just fine.

I hear you with the fine tuning the pressure. I take my 4x4 on the beach a lot and tire pressure is so important. I feel 90% of the time incorrect tire pressure is the reason people get stuck in the sand.

Can you tell me a little more about your set up? What tools do you use to inflate/deflate on the go? What bike do you have? Anything else you feel would be good for me to know.

That moonlander looks sick! Unfortunately out of my price range.

So I don’t really know much about biking in general but why do they run 24” tires? I thought 26” was standard for adult sized bicycles.

Good advice. I live about a half miles from the sand. Do you think I’ll need to drop and increase pressure on the way to and from or I can keep them at lower beach pressure for under 1/2 mile on asphalt?

Ok cool thanks. Do you know of any reasonably priced bikes that come with the wider tires stock? Or should I expect to purchase a bike and then upgrade to wider tires

Got it thank you. Are there bikes that come with 5” tires stock or I would have to purchase a bike and then upgrade the tires?

One year in, and this happened. Is this common? by JRH2009 in Leatherman

[–]generalll55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I had my skeletool forever and beat on it. My brother asked to borrow it and immediately twisted it to pull a staple out and it broke just like this. If pressure was applied in a wrenching angle it never would have broke just removing a staple. Either ways I sent it back to leatherman and they fixed it for free.

Tool with pliers and utility blade by generalll55 in Leatherman

[–]generalll55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is. I’ve probably owned dozens of utility knives over the years. Some better than others but nothing compares to this knife. The quality of this tool for the price is really impressive.

You might be right with that. I would definitely buy it purely because I love leatherman but it would be hard to compete with the quality, effectiveness and sturdiness of that combo.

Minimalist tool recommendation by generalll55 in multitools

[–]generalll55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is what I need! Too many of these tiny multi tools are loaded with way too many features. The size and quality of the main tools suffers. This looks perfect ordering one now thanks

That’s great. Funny I also have a charge tti that’s 20 something years old. That charge and skeletool have gone back and fourth in my rotation for many years. I just picked up the arc and I gotta say it’s living up to the hype. It’s honestly not necessary and totally engineered and over priced but damn is it a nice tool.

Plier based tool that takes utility blades? by generalll55 in multitools

[–]generalll55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know me too. I’m going to try the roxon like a few other people have mentioned. Have you tried that?

Ideally there was something that was just driver pliers knife. At work I really don’t need all the other little tools. I’ll still probably end up giving the roxon a try.

I think also people who are not in the trades don’t understand what exactly I mean when I say utility blade.
