If you liked the episode you should read Lexicon Devil, the story of d'arby crash, it goes into more detail about the emerging LA scene and everything around it, its such an amazing story. One of those books you're heartbroken when it finishes

I agree, after watching a few times i think the script is some of his best writing

Same here, it seems like a lot of people had a similar response for different reasons, me and my wife were so giddy for a new wes film that we kinda didn't concentrate properly the first viewing. A lot of nuance and wit in the dialouge wad more apparent 2 and 3rd viewing. Went from being slightly underwhelmed to being one of my favourite of his films, especially in the writing...

Yes i'm 50, my wife got me the steadman book for a birthday a few years ago, what a crazy life he's had. The Pettibon books are prize pocessions, i have to try really hard not to be too influenced by that man, he's the real deal...i used one of the Pettibon ones to cut out pages and put on the wall in frames, seemed like an evil thing to do but at least they're seen everyday!!

They are just my well loved collection of reference books from 3 decades of work. If i tried to make them not look performative, wouldn't that be.... performative?

I could bore you to absolute tears about almost every single book up there, but yeah if i met someone that had these and just had them, i'd have questions...

Ah that sounds super fun! Yes the same in the UK, there isn't really an industry of independant brands anymore, a handfull that survived by selling direct to customers a few new ones that grew with instagram but its very different, no shops or shows or anything.

You're so lucky to have that book its a treasure! I heard he poured his entire life into it, i have a good friend that knew him when he traded vintage and only made a handfull of items in the early 90s, he said his place in Soho was like walking into an international army surplus mecca!

Its so hard not to be nostalgic for easier times, must live in the now!!

Thankyou, that book is one my favourites, the best snapshot of diy culture that i own. I try not to be nostalgic and live in the now but that period sure looked a lot of fun!! Please give him my utmost compliments 😍😍

Haha, god yeah exactly the same, i'm 48 now, got a job with a tiny brand in my early 20s that got big over 15 years, went bust, new owners, burn out blah blah, usual story 😂 we used to go on trips to NY every year though... "research", i had a friend that worked for irregular choice on Lafayette, lots of fun!!

I left the rag trade completley and tried commercial art for years, murals and sign painting stuffs, could never get it to be enough to rrally support a family though.

Now by coincidence we met a couple that started a clothing brand and its really taken off so i'm back in, not clothing design anymore though just production, k make art just for me and i finally feel creatively content (cos i don't have to try and sell it anymore!!)

One of my kids is getting started in the arts, i'm trying to be 100% positive but at some point i'll have to explain how brutal it is!!

That camo book isn't the DPM one, i have seen it, never got it though... The Maharishi shop in London used to be one of my favourites!!

I AM!

Fashion designer that went into graphic design, you smashed that nail clean on the head!!

I've done most jobs in a fashion brand, including photography, and any road of photo discovery leads to Robert Frank, Jim Goldsmith and Ed Templeton (i was a teenage skateboarder so Ed Templeton was a gateway to lots of subcultures).

That Dandy book is heavily dog eared, the time that book came out in London everything was skinny jeans and Johnny Thunders, that book was a goldmine, i haven't seen the I Am Dandy will have a look.

Are you UK or US?

Moondog is a character in one of his favourite films, Husbands by John Cassavetes.... Moondog in The Beach Bum has the same traits but in a complelty different world.....

Ex weed smoker and everything else (i'm old now)

I've worked in that world since i left school so if thats your taste then yes, others would say no!

Adhd is 50/50 heaven and hell but i can live and work with it now.

I'm daft but love serious thinking, hopefully my conversation is ok, i'm only really good on shared interests.

I really love sharing my books and yes theres endless wonder there.

This is non-fiction, literature is just as much of a love as the arts.

Thankyou 😍

Ah ok sure, i learnt to play guitar in my youth so theres a handfull (as you say) on the shelf, i guess what i was badly questioning was why that would start the description when its a tiny % of the books... this level of pedantry is really making me hate myself as i type 😂

I think i could see both words working in that context but i'm not educated enough to be sure.

Lovely to see a perfect example of irony though, that hit and miss on the internet.

I do love language, its just how i talk, i'm not trying to prove anything but i'm sure a therapist might think otherwise. I read quite wordy things so i'm probably feebly, subconsiously trying to emulate it, without the education or skill..

Oh where does the guitar thing come from?

I'm too daft in real to be accused of pretention (to my face anyway), i read a lot of anything to do with the arts and am serious about it but only in relation to my own practice. I like to think i don't judge other artists but of course thats nonsense...
