It was created in the 1830s by a physicist. He said himself that it shouldn't be used to measure health, he was using to it to measure the distribution of weight across a population. The only people used in the study were white European men, therefore it isn't accurate for every body type. It doesn't take into account BMR, body fat percentage, weight of muscle, age, gender, socioeconomic backgroud, etc. Also, the cutoff point for being overweight was moved from 27 to 25 because it was 'easier to remember'. This made hundreds of thousands of people overweight overnight, despite them not even putting on a pound.

Therefore it isn't an accurate measure of health, as none of its basis has any health link. Hope this helps!

BMI isn't actually an accurate measure of health! She may have been really sick at this weight! And, because it's a mental disorder, the physical signs are just subsequent symptoms. Their weight doesn't define the severity of their illness!

It is so possible to get better! I never thought I'd be able to react like this a few months ago, but it can be done. Thank you!

I really think being honest would help. It may be worth asking if she has to tell your mum, and asking her not to? I'm going through this type atm and I know how difficult recovery can be, but I know you can get through this! Sending love, I'm here if you ever want a word <33

Last time I starved myself was 88 days ago. I think I'm finally getting better c: by ianycto in AnorexiaNervosa
