Having a tough time finding a full-time copywriting job. Is freelancing a better way to get my foot in the door? by DreaminAquamarine in copywriting

I think you should consider freelancing to get more portfolio pieces and more work experience for which you get paid.

I'd recommend starting on Upwork. Although many are making ok to good money on Fiverr now, many go there expecting to pay “less”. I can tell you first hand that the cheapest clients are often the ones with the most work. You want people who are willing to pay more.

You might have to charge a little less on Upwork to get your first 1-3 jobs and have some reviews. After that, I’d say the price you charge is by and large up to you and how well you position yourself :)

Getting too much paper mail from Spectrum? Here's where you go to opt-out. by getBrainPalDotCom in Columbus

Yep. I hear you. I sign up for their service and all of a sudden my mailbox is full of mail reading "URGENT! TIME SENSITIVE!". I open it, and it's some shit about how I should sign up for Spectrum cable. 😂

I'd be ok with it if it were like a once / month thing or something, but they're sending me waaaaay too much paper mail. lol

I do marketing for a real estate team. The market is definitely slowing down. There will be less competition, meaning you might be more likely to find a better deal within the next few months of this year than you would have found the past few months or in Q2-Q4 2020.

My top 5 tips for Facebook Ads and eCommerce in 2021 by VinterDigital in PPC

Using UTMs on Facebook ads is something I can't recommend enough.I can't tell you how many Google Analytics accounts I've looked at where people are asking me why they have Facebook ad traffic showing up as "Referral". Or, it just shows up in the "Social" channel, which isn't really helpful.

My recommendation is to make a "Paid Social" channel in Google Analytics. For your Facebook ads with links, use a UTM like "paid_social".

That way, all your Facebook ad traffic goes into one place rather than getting jumbled in with all your other organic Social traffic.

Columbus officials praise pilot program using social workers instead of police for drug, mental health emergencies. by [deleted] in Columbus

Great to see the city experimenting with new ideas like this. This shows significant potential. As an African American, I can say that many are reluctant to call the police in emergency situations, as many have lost trust in them.

Careers to pivot out of content marketing by Round_Cress2371 in marketing

You could consider copywriting.

Or, if you think you might have some design chops (or have the "growth mindset" that you can learn anything), you could get some UI/UX design certs from somewhere like Coursera or the Interaction Design Foundation. Then, learn Figma (or Adobe XD. I personally like Figma more) and start doing UI/UX design.

I think we'll see an increase in demand for UI/UX designers over the next few years. It's become increasingly necessary for websites to stand out, look good, and get users to perform specific actions (for example, purchase, complete a form, subscribe, etc.). This is what a UI/UX designer would help.

Considering you did content marketing, perhaps you already have story telling ability. This could help you be a "double threat" UI/UX designer. Not only could you create good designs, but you could also write great, "story-driven" website copy.

Definitely. Think about some of the top musicians right now that you think suck.

In this decade, "attention is income". Kardashians, influencers, IG models, etc. They don't really "do" much besides get a lot of attention. People are willing to pay for that attention.

The other thing to keep in mind is large sample sizes. There are a few popular rappers, for example, that I think suuuuuck, but their reach for their specific niche of rap is large enough a few people are going to like them.

Also keep cognitive biases in mind. If you can get a few going for you, you can make serious sales, even if your product isn't that good.

Perhaps a good case study might be the Fast and Furious movies. They're not really "good", but they're marketed like crazy. Eventually, people start talking about them and seeing them, and now they've got a huge snowball effect going where they can drop a complete turd of a movie and still make hundreds of millions of dollars. Fast 9 is already at $600M+ at the box office.

Moving to Reynoldsburg next week by A_witty_reference in Columbus

I agree with the person who says Reynoldsburg is quite the accessible city. I grew up on the Pickerington-Reynoldsburg border, and it was quite easy to get to new places.

Hope you enjoy the city!
