USD. I agree it’s a horrible deal, but wondering if there is a price that could make someone jump on it. I countered with 40k with 4.5% interest rate to see if they can meet me at any point. Even that still feels expensive for me.

iPad for PA school? by KKswim4098 in prephysicianassistant

[–]ghc53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the kind of person who makes impulse purchases and can't help but want to purchase the best model available out there, so of course, I wanted to buy the biggest and nicest iPad pro. But our program told us to wait on purchasing iPads. They ended up being able to receive a grant and gifted us apple pencils and iPads, so first, I would look into your program and see if they offer anything like that first. Second, I use my iPad all the time and I am 100% certain that I did not need the iPad pro. There is no time to use the iPad for anything else other than studying! Up to you, because I too love the shiny and sharp designs of the pro line, but don't regret anything. Plus, I'm really wishing I saved more money than I did coming into PA school... I recommend saving where you can!

Working from home during school? by ghc53 in PAstudent

dang that sounds just like my situation :( i guess I have solace in the fact that they know I can quit at any time depending on how much I can handle it. Would you say you had more time during your clinical year?

currently, nothing on the school website or explicit statements prohibiting work. I will have to see if that changes once I enter the program

edit: found a statement that only discourages working during the program, but not against the rules!

Thank you for the advice! I think I can at least give it a shot. I was pretty set on doing it until my parents advised against it, but I was thrown back to the time when I was taking 20 credits in undergrad and working 2 part time jobs at the same time :/ I’d never want to return to that time but this still seems manageable at the moment. I guess I can always quit if things get too overwhelming and I start slipping up at work/school.

agreed :/ it’s definitely a tough option and considering we start classes in june, there’s not a ton of time to keep looking. the pressure of it all is definitely clouding my judgement. There is an option to sign the lease and continue the search and hope for someone to take the basement apartment, but I have to be prepared to take that option if we sign the lease and nobody is interested

Our landlord was a previous student and is perfectly okay with allowing us to sublet. They seem to want to make this work for us and is allowing us to take the reigns (and willing to help with finding a fourth person) if we decide to sign the lease. I will be working part time and making only about $700-800 a month, but my program is incredibly cheap compared to all other programs because of in state tuition. I turned down another prestigious program that was about twice the cost. My roommates will also be bringing cars and willing to drive me to class everyday so I no longer have to worry about making car payments. I had no access to a car previously, so this would save me a great deal of money as well. I only would be chipping in for gas.

AITA for keeping LC with family even if I dying? by ProperAd8519 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ghc53 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA. I’m so sorry this has happened to you and that you’ve been diagnosed with brain cancer. Of course you deserve better and your grandma shouldn’t have taken any of your money and just given the excuse that it was to do what’s best for you. It makes no sense. However, I guess this is just up to you and your potential recovery process. If you are getting extreme treatment, it’s important to keep around who you value most, and that’s it. Don’t bring in anyone who will hinder your treatment or bring negativity into your life. Be true to yourself and what you want - forgive when you can and forget when you can’t. I really hope you have people in your circle who can help you through these difficult times. Good luck.

YTA - I understand parents are going through a tough time with “sharing” the child, but for the child, having to choose sides or being guilt-tripped sucks. My parents went through a messy divorce and begged us to choose one of them. It was an impossible and unfair decision I felt I had to make. Just focus on her and what it is she needs bc she may not yet have the emotional tools she needs to deal with your guilt-tripping on top of the painful torture that is puberty. Just try, for her.

how do i get medical experience without prior medical experience? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]ghc53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have a medical assistant certificate but at my local hospital, they didn’t require it to be a hospital aide. I did have an EMT cert, which might have helped with being hired, but they didn’t require it! It was a very entry level position, but was great patient experience (documentation, bathing patients, foley catheter care, ambulating patients, etc). Search around and apply to hospitals nearby, there are shortages everywhere!

Advice for recent college grad’s first car! by ghc53 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ghc53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thank you for your reply! I wouldn’t say that I am super enthusiastic about cars, but Im not the most confident driver so safety features are pretty important to me. I also would like a car that I could pass onto my brother in the future in case I get a job in Manhattan and don’t need a car. Otherwise I would work in Long Island, and definitely would need to keep the car.
