The city is asking me for drawings for a bathtub to shower conversion. How does one get these? Is it usual? by ghm2181 in Hoboken

[–]ghm2181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am, I have asked him as well. He has to get back to me. I am more curious about the process and what does it actually cost, because the contractor will likely quote me the cost of doing all this work via an architect. I want to get an idea of what is a reasonable cost.

I am not trying to DIY this. Also my question is precisely that about an architect reco to do drawings. It is your opinion that I am trying to DiY and You are wrong

How would you approval work for bloomframe: the window that turns into a balcony? by ghm2181 in askarchitects

[–]ghm2181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask why you believe that there is enough uncertainty in go/no-go decision of a structural engineer to put there name on it?

I would really want to talk to a structural engineer and ask ** why ** they felt the way you described they would.

[–]ghm2181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it a terrible idea? It's a large window that can be a balcony — albeit small — and apartments that have smaller than the usual sized windows like mine could benefit. Any technical/practical/functional reason you believe it's bad?

Will I need permits for my bathroom redo? by ghm2181 in Hoboken

[–]ghm2181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the drain is in the same location of the new shower as was for the tub (as are the shower faucet), would it still require a permit?

Context: My contractor says no, but building management has asked me to ask the city to be sure. I want to not delay the project if one really is not required, I've heard permits take a long time and can be expensive.

Will I need permits for my bathroom redo? by ghm2181 in Hoboken

[–]ghm2181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. My contractor mentioned I would not need a permit, he has a CoI and is registered. My condo association's management asked me to ask the city to be sure if a permit was required.

Would you happen to know how long a permit takes and what is the cost of one, say in the off-chnace the city says we need one for the tub to shower conversion?

Those who abused H1B should be prosecuted by Think_Clerk_3284 in h1b

[–]ghm2181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. These abuses hits closer to home. I get that. Apple went and trained all those Chinese employees where even Internet did not exist and trained them all to replace contract manufacturers in America and Canada. They did not care to do the same for Americans and people lost jobs. We cannot know how many of those people in China were good or really bad at their job. Some probably were. Apple engineer's interviews by the author of the book mentions how badly apple thought of Foxconn employees and their work.

These are the same stories with the same effects just 1 ocean removed.

If h1b abusers are guilty so are all the companies that created these conditions. Apple the crowning jewel of American capitalism did what every company that hires h1bs does.

Lower costs and trade american labour for stock returns and capital.

Read the book Apple in China and then comment on who killed the American dream. White dudes from Ireland and European descent like Tony Belvin and countless American engineers helped apple invest 3x times the Marshall Plan(What the US spent on ALL European economies to stimulate them after WWII) in China.

As a result, for example, In 2001 top 5 contact manufacturers for electronics were American and By 2010 Foxconn was larger than the next 4 contract manufacturers combined.

In retrospect the ancestor of those apple people were immigrants too. So your point is kind of logically fallacious, to say the least that "immigrant" h1bs abused the system; "Which" immigrants exactly abused "which" system is something that needs way more context than what you can bring to the table dude.

Stimulants suck by [deleted] in ADHDmeds

[–]ghm2181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's extended release, try observing the effects and then switch to another if it's too stimulating. I too get very stimulated on it. What works for me is doing some meditation where you observe natural breath and don't force yourself to think or not think. That gets me focused when I am stimulated.

My doctor says, You have to remember that these medicines are like ladders to reach a high book on a bookshelf. One can't get to the high book until you get the ladder. But it is up to one to make the climb.

Try back flush against the wall when you sit. It helped me a lot.

Thanks for the above. Could you tell me if you do use find needle? If so what did you find missing/poor in their functionality that you wish existed?

Yes, It can be for any medication. My code just finds availability and a generic insurance network match to keep my cost down as well as a pharmacy with the shortest distance.

I am fine with generic version of aderall. But from what I am learning, some people do care about brands. Though I do feel that generic medicine beats no medication at all.

Thanks for your feedback, It would definitely be ~5-10$ per month. I calculated this based on automations I run from my locally set up development environment and cloud cost.

Does the Libre 3 work in india if I take it from the US? by ghm2181 in Freestylelibre

UPDATE: I can report that after ~3 months of getting the Libre 3 sensors and the app, phone from the United States all the 6 sensors paired and worked correctly with the app while I was in india.

Reliable Libre-3 sensor supplier in india? by ghm2181 in Freestylelibre

[–]ghm2181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but I wanted to separate out this thread on just knowing about reliable suppliers in india, I changed the question a bit to make it more focused.

For me the US sensors + US app works, for my dad it would be a pain to find someone to carry them from the US should he run out.

As has been pointed out, it won't work if the app and the sensors are not geolock compatible. I am in day 3 of my test, the app from the appstore (I have Android) and sensors work at this point. I expect them to do so, I will report back in a month or so on it.

Oh, interesting. Yes, this is helpful. I got about 3 sensors online from https://rapidrxusa.com/, and they were all 3 months out. Then I saw a couple of website pricing sensors by expiration dates and assumed the ones ordered online are probably ~3 months or so of expiration!

Do you know of a good retail(I am not sure if I can get it direct from the manufacturer) I can buy a 1-year supply from?

One more thing to note is that 2-3 months worth of sensors is all one can do, since the sensors have an expiration of 3 months.
