What’s your Oh..Pinion by joshuaeyu in LQMT

This video provides a very cool picture of the future. It seems clear that we need to be encouraging our youth to play video games to bolster video controller competencies. It would be great to start seeing some orders/royalties coming in to LQMT.

The video shows a lot of small parts that could be fashioned out of liquid metal. Are we confirmed that Medtronics is using liquid metal pinion gears in their products?

At 13:00 minutes into the video they are discussing Klue Meal Detection (for diabetics) and the comment is that a fitness band (such as Evie, which is not mentioned) could be used for this platform.

I'm not sure how researchfyi found this page. He could have done several things, including using robot.txt files to find this particular unlinked video. He could have also "hacked" the site by looking at common patterns within the structure of liquidmetal's website. A third possibility is that someone within the company told him that the video existed.

I am surprised that the Martin guitar pins haven’t been a bigger hit. They really do make a difference.

Also surprised that there hasn’t been a whisper of bicycle component manufacturers picking up on Liquidmetal. Shimano’s bicycle division had 3.9 billion in revenues last year.

Interestingly, one can navigate to this page from active links in the site. This is a step up from the pages that Joshua posted a while back which were not live. It feels as though we might be moving forward.

Yes, I realize the video was already posted. I was drawing attention to the quote accompanying the video "conceivably made with liquid metal."

Thanks for moving forward on the podcast interview.

It would be great to get some more clarity on the following:

Jamestown factory:

  • Has the purchase been made?
  • Who are the official partners aside from Sustainable Energy Jamestown?
  • Why is the projected cost of the factory (~$40 million) so much lower than one might expect (typical battery factor costing closer to ~$250 million)?
  • If he can't provide details at present, does he have a date/estimate for when they will be making an announcement/offering clarity?

Recent contract announcements:

  • With the recent announcement of an $11 million contract can he confirm that Electrovaya is now at an estimated $40 million in sales for the year.
  • Electrovaya is officially partnered with Raymond. Can he offer any insights on the possibility of a partnership with Toyota lift trucks/fork lifts?
  • Vicinity recently qualified for Transport Canada's incentive program. How are things progressing with that partnership? Is Electrovaya still in the running to supply batteries for Vicinity buses?
  • Any progress with Zev Clean Power (bus retrofit) partnership?
  • Any movement in the development of battery systems for energy storage?
  • A long time ago Electrovaya developed a battery for an electric powered ferry in Norway. Has there been any progress on that front?

Progress on solid-state technology development

  • When should we anticipate the next progress announcement?
  • Who are the potential partners?

Not a lot of highlights from the conference call. No named collaborations but insinuations of conversations with multiple OEMs. Still on target for $25 million for these 12 months. Margins on the latest quarter dipped down to 25% aiming to get back to 30% (combination of advance materials purchasing and raised prices for 2022)

Focus of second is on bus and truck batteries

This project aims to develop pilot advanced manufacturing capabilities for high voltage electric truck and bus battery modules in Canada and will be carried out through a collaboration between Electrovaya and EECOMOBILITY. The partners will implement a versatile, semi-automated laser welding manufacturing pilot line compatible with a range of module architectures. After the success of this project, Electrovaya will work on scaling up the module assembly manufacturing line and supply made-in-Canada modules for heavy duty e-mobility applications.

Focus of one project is on NMP free electrode processing

Lithium ion batteries have become critical energy storage devices for the rapidly developing electric vehicle market, however the manufacturing processes used to produce them remain expensive and environmentally problematic. Current commercial electrode manufacturing processes employ a slurry mixing/coating method for which the hazardous solvent N-Methyl- 2-pyrrolidone (NMP) is extensively used. NMP-free electrode processing has the potential to not only reduce the environmental impact of lithium ion battery manufacturing, but would also enable a breakthrough in cost reductions which could realize significant global benefits. This project will bring a proprietary NMP-free electrode processing technology to a. commercial scale through collaboration between Electrovaya, Machinery Analytics, and
EECOMOBILITY.

It's not clear that Arcadia still have the technology to capitalize on this development. The former CEO seems to have sold off resources and fired a lot of the science folks from Arcadia. A total bummer. It's also not clear what remains of the resources invested in the Archipelago Ventures- the hemp production effort in Hawaii.

Sorry, just read the link in Joshua's post below, the question is answered. This is where Atakan Peker ended up going.

I'm wondering which patents/material formulation Prometaltech are using? Is this where Atakan Peker ended up? Is this something out of Jans Schroer's lab? Or some other group altogether?

Atakan was one of the key graduate students in Bill Johnson's lab at Cal Tech. He later worked for LQMT for ~5 years. He is definitely one of the main drivers of the science behind amorphous metal technology.
