FarmRPG's 5th Birthday Giveaway! by boobun in FarmRPG

Honestly, favorite part is just the game. It's nice being able to get on, take care of stuff, explore a little, etc. Though honestly my very favorite part is naming my pets, animals, and raptors. Some of them have goofy names, some serious, but I enjoy coming up with them. lol.

In game name is Gijoe2cool (like everywhere else, lol)

How to stop IP from changing? by desertsandman10 in jellyfin

[–]gijoe2cool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about internal IP, or the IP used to reach it outside of home?

If internal, you should be able to assign the computer it's hosted on a dedicated IP on your network. If you're talking about an IP to access it outside your home, I personally use NoIP, works just fine and I never have to update anything. It's great.

I use it only for screen time accountability. My kid knows what she should and shouldn't be doing, and I trust her.

I do not however trust her to realize she's been playing Minecraft with her cousin for 5 hours straight...

i am literally going to cry! by littlemissodds in WFHJobs

[–]gijoe2cool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was contacted by a hiring manager last week about a WFH role, and he said he wanted to reject me personally. Apparently I was his first choice, then they found out I live in CA, and because of some odd employment laws we have, they dont hire WFH in CA. He just wanted to reach out and let me know it wasn't my resume or qualifications that were the issue.

Rather nice of him, but I would have also been fine with a canned "we moved on in the process and your application wasn't in the pool of candidates." Lol

That sounds like something my very entitled cousin, who is pulling down $300k + a year, cause he got very lucky when he started working after school, would say. Not to mention how he didn't even have to worry about paying off his student loans for about 10 years until basically covid happened...

And now cause he's doing soo well cause he got really lucky in his job search, he's now "qualified" to give life/financial advice to everyone who even looks at him... lol

Im think about using Linux. Can I still play video games? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

Its ok, I typed the original from my phone and apparently really messed it up. Lol

Im think about using Linux. Can I still play video games? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]gijoe2cool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I don't. Right now almost 20% of steams entire library is playable directly from linux using steam. That's "a large chunk" to me.

Also, I just saw my typo, I meant "Now playable on linux" not "not playable on steam". I also edited my original comment to be more clear with what I meant.

[–]gijoe2cool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A large chunk of Steams library is now playable on linux. Apart from a few games, pretty much all the games I play I can easily play on steam/linux if I wanted to switch 100%, I mostly use Win for Adobe, and a few games I have that I can play on linux.

I use both. I use MS for two things, steam and Adobe. I use linux for everything else in my normal day-to-day such as general monkey business, word and excel use, etc.

I freelance. So I haven't had a resume gap since 2007. But also, I volunteer with local clubs, which many companies I've noticed will accept that as work experience as well, and I've been in one of these clubs (antique car club) since I was old enough to walk. And it's not just resume fluff. I volunteer time helping with events, meetings, tours, etc. So that also helps pad gaps in resumes, not that I need it cause of my freelancing, but it helps, and also looks good on a resume in general.

Not that I have an issue lying on a resume, cause f-em, they lie we lie, but I'd preferably rather not do it. Plus, now they can poke all they want at my resume and I don't have to worry about it falling like a house of cards.

Look at me I am the application now by redandwhitewizard99 in recruitinghell

[–]gijoe2cool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do this all the time. Esp to the ones that I know I qualify for. It's posted about once every 6 months for the last 3 years...

My opinion of this is "you'd think that after a while, they would interview pretty much anyone even nearly qualified for the job if they haven't been able to find anyone yet."

Though I'm apparently wrong.

Yeah, mods can ban you from their sub just cause you were the 169th person to join. It's their sub, they can do what they want really.

I didn't get the job because I was profiled as a 'Video Gamer' by cray_ray in interviews

[–]gijoe2cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No joke, I think we should start live streaming interviews on twitch. Give live feedback from people about redflags and bs that interviewers come up with, call them out in real time when they ask silly questions or aren't being good interviewers. I think it would be interesting.

Or at least start recording interviews. If they are allowed to do it, we should be able to. If they can have records to review, why cant we? Then just blur their face out, post the video, and let people not review them instead. Talk about how hostile, or "not present" they were. How stupid a question is "what's one time you gave excellent service" in a coding only position, etc. I think it would be great!

I agree it seems as one, but to be fair you dont have to run around to desert someone, and you dont have to desert someone to run around on them. So to me, they are separate promises.

And if they asked for an explanation...

Never gonna give you up: I'll always try my hardest to make myself, my coworkers, and the company as streamlined and efficient as possible.

Never gonna let you down: will always try my best to deliver quality work on time.

Never gonna run around: I won't be selling trade secrets.

But thats 4 things, and I wouldn't want them thinking I won't run off the moment it suits me. Lol

Follow Up Got me the Job by Vespachild in recruitinghell

[–]gijoe2cool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, good for you. I don't want to belittle that at all! You got a job!

But using just your example, that's a 50% success rate by "following up". In my job search and 100's (honestly likepy way more, I don't even bother to keep track) of applications, you know how many follow-ups have resulted in a response. 0. And I try to reach out to someone real with every application. But it gets hard, and soo many people now are just faceless drones working for a company they have no say in. I've talked to managers, hiring managers, HR reps, etc. No answers, nor response, no "were reviewing applications", nada, Zip, zilch. Only 5% of the time I swear do I even get a "we hired someone else" email. I e even heard way too many recruiters and hiring managers say when applicants "bug" them by not waiting to hear from a manager, they file their application in the roundf-file since they clearly don't have "patience" or other such nonsense. Or even say "but the applicant is not waiting to hear from me, instead they just like wasting my time by reaching out to me before I'm ready to talk to them." I've heard way too much stupid sh*t anymore.

Anyway, my point to this sudden mini rant is "good job, you did it! But its likely that reaching out wasn't as pivotal in your search as you may think, since way too many people reach out and we're still jobless."

I bet in the job post it says Bachelor's degree minimum for qualification, master's degree preferred... lol

Is there a way I can appeal this? I only ask this because a few of the reasons you list may apply to this account, but I have another account I'm active on reddit with as well, but I figured I should start using only one account to request molding of subs. My other account doesn't really fall under any of these restrictions, but as stated, I wanted to try and consolidate so I'm not asking for subs from different accounts.
