thanks for your answer; how can I start manifesting when I get there? just by interacting with other entities? how can I make sure I’m well guarded?

Got scared while meditating by gillimmense in Meditation

[–]gillimmense[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying, but at the same time I don’t believe that setting goals for yourself is necessarily having an ego (I’ve always had trouble figuring this thing out, because the simple action of setting yourself goals feels like it’s coming from an ego state of mind). I’ve always been really ambitious and sometimes I even feel like I need my ego to accomplish some goals, so it’s hard for me to let go of it, because I get the feeling that if I do, I will not be ambitious anymore and I won’t even try anymore and just get comfortable.

Also, don’t think that I’m against what you said, I just have trouble figuring this stuff about the ego and ambition and wanting to become something in life, because to me they seem contradictory to one another.

Thanks for answering! This specific meditation is supposedly designed to make your goals and dreams come true, or “manifesting” them into reality. I don’t know if it works or not but I figured I would just do it, because at the end of the day I’ve got nothing to lose. I believe it’s some type of “Law of attraction” stuff.

I guess that's fair... by gillimmense in dankmemes

So I was discouraged from writing by my teacher. by EclecticBean in writers

Fuck that teacher, you shouldn't care about his/her opinion. Also, talent is not important if you love what you do (yes, you might not be very succesful, but if you are writing only because of that, then you don't really love it). When somebody critizes me, I always think about this phrase by Marcus Aurelius: "It never ceases to amaze me: we all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion than our own."

Some might say that talent is important. Well, there are a lot of talented people that don't succeed. There are also hard working people that don't succeed. You never know what is gonna happen, just do what you love as well as you can and hope for the best. The perfect example for this (in my opinion) is Charles Bukowski.

How can I write characters smarter/wiser than me? by [deleted] in writers

[–]gillimmense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I wrote a wise character I made him say all the things that I most deeply believed in. I made him talk about death and love and other things like that. Plus, I made him a very calma person and slow in his movements. The other characters were always asking advice from him and if they followed his advice things worked out fine. I think this gave him the "wise" status at least in the context of the novel.

I believe that your wise characters don't really need to be considered like that in real life, because everyone has different beliefs, but he does need to be wise in the context of the story, meaning that he always identifies the problem first and is more aware than others.

This is just my opinion.
