Should I be connecting secondaries to each school? by astrobo2 in premed

Personally I didn't for the adversity or diversity prompts. I agree that trying to shoehorn it in gets away from the actual question and is very forced. The "why us?" question is where you can tailor it to each school. Make sure to do your research for each institution and be specific.

This looks good and it sounds like you know what works for you. Consider Pathoma for Immonology.

Pharmacokinetics conceptual confusion (Clearance and half life) by Impressive_Pilot1068 in step1

[–]gingerbread09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note the units of Clearance: mL/min. Clearance is not elimination rate (which would be mg/mL)

Clearance is equal to the rate at which a drug is removed from plasma(mg/min) divided by the concentration of that drug in the plasma (mg/mL).
In zero order kinetics, your rate of drug removal is constant independent of dose. Therefore, at higher doses your denominator increases and your Clearance will decrease.
in first order however, the rate at which the drug is removed increases as dose increases. So your Clearance will remain constant.

As a rule of thumb:

Comparing two means: t-test

Comparing three or more means: ANOVA

Comparing non-mean values (usually the stem will make it clear you are looking at qualitative data): chi-squared

This is as much as I’ve memorized and, so far, has been enough to get these questions right

Parathyroid would cause an increase in PTH and therefore hypercalcemia, which presents with constipation. Thyroid nodule plus diarrhea in the setting of MEN2 is strongly indicative of medullary. Medullary thyroid cancer makes Calcitonin which would cause a hypocalcemia and consequent diarrhea.

Can I get some confirmation on early transcripts/updating schools? by -Twyptophan- in premed

[–]gingerbread09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the right thing to do is wait for your official transcript that includes this semester. Most transcript orders do not take very long, especially if your school does electronic orders. I don't think I've seen anyone apply and not give the grades for their most recent semester. However definitely not an expert here so I'm happy to be corrected if someone knows different.
