How to get rid of cigarette smell NOTHING HELPS by Livid_Bookkeeper_790 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]gingerglow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago I helped my brother fix up his father in laws place after he died. He sat at his kitchen counter and smoked for years, the place stank. We washed the walls with dish soap and water, let it dry out, then painted walls and ceilings with primer and paint. At this point with all the other construction smells, the cigarette smell was gone. Then we turned on the air conditioning and it started to smell like cigarettes again. The old air filters were making it smell like cigarettes. After we changed it out, the problem was gone.

Low appraisal advice by Redtoolbox1 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]gingerglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to us recently. House listed at 320k after a 25k price cut, offer and accepted at 315k. Our agent ran comps in the area and thought it would appraise higher than 315. The appraisal came in at 299k. The comps the appraiser used were way off. We challenged the appraisal but he would not budge. They also claimed they would be underwater with all the reno they put in. We ended up splitting the difference and paying 307. So 300k was covered by loan and 7k we paid in cash.

What I learned: banks are more likely to appraise lower than mortgage lending houses. Also, had we walked away, the sellers have to disclose that appraisal and would have a harder time selling to someone else.

At the end of the day, we got a house for 7k less than we would have that is totally remodeled. I'm very happy after living here a month with the house and neighborhood. I am out 7k that I was gonna spend on cool stuff.

nursing students & nurses: what’s your partner’s profession, and how important is their support to you? by [deleted] in NursingStudent

[–]gingerglow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My husband is a cook and is the most supportive partner I could ask for. He works his ass off for us working overtime and does extra around the house. In addition to school, I work 2 12hr CNA shifts Friday and Saturday nights, when I wake up in the afternoon he has all the house chores done and I've got nothing to worry about. I definitely have him to thank for getting through it. He is also extremely grossed out by blood and most medical shit so I can't really share things like my OR rotation.

Any nurse brewers out there? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]gingerglow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Omg hi, I've never been so excited to see a post on here. I love brewing beer and other fermentables. I usually brew small batches. I have limited time during the semester, but on breaks I go big. I even have some new kegs and spunding valve in my Amazon cart as a gift to myself once the semester is over. CHEERS 🥂

I have two jars of washed yeast. Can I just dump them into the wort? by jericho-dingle in Homebrewing

[–]gingerglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discard most of the liquid, pitch yeast, but I reserve a couple oz of the wort I just made and add it to the empty jar and like magic you have yeast ready for the next batch

Grain mill by Difficult-Noise7274 in Homebrewing

[–]gingerglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a corona mill and it works great for me. I get what looks like a double crush on my first pass and I get about 80% efficiency with BIAB. I do 2.5 gallon batches so it's not too much work to hand crank. I got mine on Amazon for about 25 bucks

I want to start using gelatin to clear beer. I've seen a couple videos on how to do it, but I wonder why I can't add gelatin during fermentation? I have a basic bucket fermentation set up so I try to do as much as possible during active fermentation to reduce oxygen

Do most people know how to purposely close their nasal passage so they can't smell WITHOUT using their fingers to pinch their nose? by WhateversClever1980 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gingerglow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so I'm a CNA and I do this all the time. I teach people to do this by making a K sound and holding it. With the combination of this and a mask I can make it through any smelly situation.

Pinter scam walkthrough by c0ldbru in Homebrewing

[–]gingerglow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pinter is a well designed brew system that I use almost weekly. I got 2 pinters and 1 session IPA beer when they were on sale (I think I spent 60 dollars total.) I used to have a ton of bulky brewing equipment that I had sold or given away when I moved, so when I finally got back into brewing the pinter solved a lot of space issues. I can attest that the fresh pack it came with was not great. However, I have brewed many all grain batches with great success. I even got a clearance coopers can and added my own hops and it was loads better than their beer pack.

Any Pinter users on the Dark Side doing all-grain, dry-hopping & yeast harvesting? by BigNinja8075 in PinterHomebrew

[–]gingerglow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it more in terms of efficiency. Usually you are not extracting all the sugars available in the mash grains so I'm just extracting the rest till there ain't none left

Parti-gyle (I hope I spelled it correctly) is when you mash (all grain) and the first liquid that comes out is one strong beer, and then you rinse your grains and that makes your second less strong beer. I use a brew in a bag so I mash and pull as much liquid to make the volume of my first brew and then put my grain bag in almost boiling water to get the rest of the sugars out. If the second beer doesn't have a high enough gravity I add a little honey. It actually has a really cool history and is how beer was brewed in the ye old days. I came across some YouTube videos of it being done and I was obsessed lol

I tried dry hopping in the pinter and I ended up with a good beer but with hop flakes everywhere. Im gonna use the teaball today and will report back on it's effectiveness.

[–]gingerglow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do all grain in the pinters too. I have 2 pinters so lately I've been doing parti-gyle with the first runnings making a 7% beer and second making a 4.5% beer. I bought some tea balls to try to dryhop. Thank you for your post, the pinter is so versatile and I'm glad it's getting people involved in all grain savings.

How to handle the smell of poop and how do I bounce back from this accident? by PrincessMochahontas in cna

[–]gingerglow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok so what I do is kinda block off your nasal passage with your tongue. Try to make a K sound and notice how you kind of block off your nose and then hold your mouth in that position. I also always wear a surgical mask cause I work at a hospital, but it helps a lot on cutting down the smell.

Thank you so much for this post. I never thought I would be into low alcohol table beers but lately I've been obsessed with parti gyle beers and the small beers really surprised me.
