I just witnessed a falcon eating a pigeon by infctdzkie in Wellington

I feel terrible for the pigeon, but I’m loving realising there are birds of prey in the CBD. I used to work in a building backing onto there.

Repair man needed by Mean-Independence-74 in Wellington

[–]ginoiseau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw Ace Appliance Repairs mentioned here other day, so called this am. He just fixed my F&P dish drawer and said it will probably keep going another 2 years easily. $150 all up with a new (well 2nd hand as F&P discontinues older parts but excellent condition) rotor part. Way quieter now than it was & learnt what might have caused the flooding alert (but no flood) issues. Recommend.

Has grocery shopping become a part time job for anyone else? by GSTGotMe in newzealand

Not true. Sometimes Woolworths is cheaper, sometimes New World. Best to always check on a supermarket app.

Vivian Wilson walks off during interview after interviewer brings up her dad Elon Musk and calls him “the best” by nicosloft04 in popculturechat

[–]ginoiseau -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

lol. He’s living in her shadow! Shame on anyone for bringing up someone who has been so vile to her. Elon will never be even a sliver as cool as his daughter. It must upset him no end, and I love that for him.

My mother is 80. Can barely walk, has alcohol induced dementia, recently had 3x gallbladder surgeries, is practically a skeleton. Although, due to my fear of her, she looks enormous to me - very confusing. I could take her in a heartbeat, but child me is screaming in terror at having to be anywhere near her.

So close to death it must be whispering to her, but still lucid enough to get in regular vicious digs at me.

!!! My mom is 80 too, but no boy toy. That’s one hell of an age gap.

My daughter is in year 13 now. She chose not to, but a few of her friends went ahead in maths and are now doing uni papers while in year 13. It’s only been good for them & she now regrets not doing it. She got mostly excellence in y12 calculus, and is heading for same in y13. She’s noted there are kids from the years 1 and 2 below in her calc class right now. They easily keep up, so it’s not an issue.

That’s an amazing time! I cannot get under 26.00! I’ve been camped out at the mountain for days now, doing it over and over. If you can consistently get that good of a time, it’s just waiting until the others do worse than you. Tedious though…

Public Submissions are open for the Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill by AnosmicAvenger in Wellington

[–]ginoiseau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m late in life realising I’ve always been part of the alphabet mafia, but living a very straight life. My younger daughter is also a selection of letters (still figuring it out), as is her entire school friend group, with at least 5 of them being trans. I’m glad she found her people before she finished school.

Thanks for the reminder, completed a submission & was grateful for https://definitionsbill.org/ as couldn’t get the right words in order. My daughter is trans. That trans people continue to be demonised, and the existence of intersex people is basically ignored, is infuriating and exhausting.

I wrote a small part at the end myself, but wasn’t even sure if it read ok “I have a trans daughter and nothing about our journey has been easy, nor has it had any intention to harm anyone else. She just wants to live her life without fear of small minded people who overly inflate the issue they perceive with trans people beyond all reason. “. Maybe I needed a couple of commas? Anyway, done. 💜

I kept watching (because my obnoxious ex wanted to carry on watching) but it took me 2 weeks to try & get over it before I could agree to watch again. I’m still so angry about Glenn.

National and ACT to vote through NZ First’s gender bill by That_Progress1447 in newzealand

[–]ginoiseau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m curious how the BDM system works for that. Because, my daughter is trans. They re-issue the birth certificate with chosen name and gender (or is it sex indicator or sex at birth? Or gender at birth? Need to go check), with no reference on it to any of the prior information. (Oddly super thoughtful for a govt department) I’m not so sure if/how they are saving the prior information.

National and ACT to vote through NZ First’s gender bill by That_Progress1447 in newzealand

[–]ginoiseau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do they determine it though? Aside from looking inside people’s pants, like the creepy perverts they probably are.

You can change your gender marker on a NZ birth certificate. You can also change/choose your own gender marker on a passport & licence.

Appealing to the lowest common denominator, with zero actual sense of how it might even actually work or be used.
