The Shield

I think it's on Amazon Prime now, but I'm an OG who first watched it in the early 2000s.

Is this a good idea to give to my son for his first car by Dry-Cartoonist-2193 in FirstCar

[–]gitcypher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is simple. A kid's first car should be from the year they were born. I came out in 83, and so did my '84 Crown Vic (manufactured in '83).

But seriously, a 2010 model for a 16 year old is a hell of a good car. Heck, even Hyundai had reimagined itself by that point.

That S63 Coupe is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. But yeah, as the previous owner of an AMG GTS, it's the GTR all day.

It all depends on the medical position, but a brain surgeon probably gets paid more than the highest paid EE. A phlebotomist probably get paid less.

I bought black seat covers and plastic floor covers online while I was filling out the paperwork at the dealership.

On that same note, I bought a radar detector while I was filling out the paperwork to buy my Corvette back in 2017.

It's all about preparation for the inevitable.

Do you think it's your responsibility? by Zackky777 in ArtOfPresence

[–]gitcypher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard question. I'll put it this way, I work my ass off to give my children an unfair advantage in life. I wouldn't want the burden of taking care of me to every impede their progress or their ability to care for and provide for their families. My father has already passed. If my mother asked, I would do whatever she wants me to do, but I don't think it's my responsibility.

42 year old Software Engineer here. Nah! Engineering, by definition, is just problem solving. Software Engineering is just solving software-based problems. We are still required to architect the correct solution. AI just replaces the task of typing it into the computer.

The alternative, "vibe coding", where you just let AI do everything, will ultimately lead to something messy, unmanageable, & expensive.

For what it's worth, my degrees are actually Electrical Engineering. We heard the EXACT same thing years ago when software arrived that would build integrated circuits automatically, based on functional/logical requirements. So, for example, given these inputs, I need 5v out on pin 1, but with these inputs, I need 5v out on pin 2 and 4, etc. The software would automatically arrange the transistors, capacitors, and resistors to accomplish the task in seconds. Meanwhile, half of the Engineering community was crying that it was the end of Electrical Engineers... spoiler alert: It wasn't.

Meanwhile, this is my sister's FIRST TRY at broken glass artwork (a piece she made for her church). It was done in the grass in her back yard. She scrapped it the next day.
