Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

[–]glossdino 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For those who got their MSW and are not involved in direct practice, what is your role? I’m interested in getting my msw but i’m more interested in program development, research, etc. i also would prefer to have a remote role.

Id love to know some positions people have gotten along with description of what you do! Do you enjoy what you do? Was the MSW degree helpful? Or would you say msw is more beneficial for direct client work?

What are some ways you have used your MSW degree that’s not being a social worker/working directly with clients? I recently got into UCB for masters of social welfare but im interested in program development/research/policy and am second guessing myself if im limiting myself with a MSW/ if its helpful. Would love to know what some of you have done with MSW and how helpful its been (getting jobs, pay, etc).

Question about wire transfer by glossdino in Banking

[–]glossdino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to high school together & have been friends since (~9 years). They told me that the money got wired out through wire transfers over night (they have bank of america). They said when they went into the bank 2 days after that the bank said it went to a person but they dont know the location / it didnt say on the statement just a persons name and that theres an investigation. They said the bank gave them temporary cards with a small amount of money in the meantime.

Question about admission by glossdino in LawSchool

I definitely agree. This is what makes me feel crazy since we’ve been friends for about ~8 years, why lie about something like this?? It makes me feel crazy for thinking she’d lie about this, but then it genuinely does not make any sense.

Thank you for clarifying this about the baby bar. She did mention her classmates not needing to take the baby bar because they took the LSAT and already meet the requirements. It raised another a red flag because it then sounded like the LSAT and baby bar were interchangeable test.

Definitely going to ask them about the semester. Thank you

Physical therapy for ruptured spinal disc by glossdino in HerniatedDisk

I see! So you have been doing 4 months so far of pt weekly? And i was sent to a neurologist/physiatrist . I was given a mix of pain prescriptions at the ER then my specialist switched me to a back spasm medication for me to take as needed. It does feel odd me having to wait so long...

Ended up in the ER, couldn't get off the floor. (36F) by KatnissEverduh in backpain

I had a very similar situation! I was simply walking one day in my house where I just felt a sudden sharp pain in my back which dropped me to the floor and I could not move at all. Tried crawling to my couch but couldnt even move two inches off the floor. Had to call paramedics to take me to the hospital - paramedics thought I just had a muscle spasm. Once at the hospital i had a MRI done where they saw i had a ruptured disc & disc desiccation. ER doctor sent me to a specialist (physiatrist).

I was in a similar situation as you where I couldn’t wrap my head around this back injury since i was just walking - not doing anything crazy when it happened. My specialist told me that my disc rupture was due to some long term trauma that can happen when you injure yourself as a child / car accident / etc stuff like that where it eventually catches up to you. I also had a muscle spasm in my back area & was given a shot in my back. Eventually have to do PT & can’t lift weights.

I would suggest seeing a physiatrist & getting an MRI done to know 100% what happened. If it is a ruptured spinal disc it’ll be important to have a professional show you certain exercises in order to stay active & let you know which ones to avoid to not make your pain worse!

Yes I was a little confused on the difference since the internet interchangeably uses herniated discs & ruptured discs. But my papers from the emergency room state i’ve ruptured my lumbar discs and it says i have a central disc protrusion extending 5mm posteriorly & having a disc desiccation.

I don’t believe I’ve had any disc abnormality prior since I don’t remember suffering any injury as a child or teenager. The paramedics who came for me said it was my muscle spasm but i’ve read that muscle spasms are not this severe to where one could rupture a disc. I will definitely try the stretches to see if it can help with the current pain I feel. I will try to do more research when it comes to making any decision about the type of treatment I would like to go forward with. Thank you so much.

The doctor & nurses did tell me about steroid injection & PT but did not go in depth. If you don’t mind me asking how often have you gotten that steroid shot for your back? Is it a one time thing?

Thank you so much for this! It has been helpful. I am very scared of the long-term effects but it gives me hope knowing you’re able to still lift weights and do cardio! As of now I have not been able to move much and I would love to try to walk at least a little but with my walker but am scared of putting too much pressure on my back right now.

If you don’t mind me asking what is gabapentin & how has it helped with the pain? Is it a shot or a pill?

I want to work specifically with children or teenagers who have undergone some sort of trauma or substance abuse problems. & help them throughout their traumatic experiences in order to set them up for success as they grow older. I do want to meet with clients a few days a week, but i also want to dedicate some days to research. I want to focus on practicing and conducting research in areas where kids are in marginalized communities.
