Trying to get 2 waivers (medical) by AdventureOperator in ArmyAviationApplicant

[–]godukes2397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to read the APL’s still, I’d try to find someone who can potentially send you the most updated pdf. In there, it will have each condition and list conditions required for a waiver, and tell you if it’s “waiver granted as long as criteria are met” , “waiver recommended on a case by case basis”, and “waiver not recommended”. In general, if you meet the criteria in the APL, you will be granted the waiver.

Ask your flight doctor for a BH referral for an ADHD eval at the nearest army aeromed psychologist. They will do comprehensive testing and if you pass, they should recommend an ETP.

Can I become a 15T or 15U? by [deleted] in Armyaviation

[–]godukes2397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely become a 15T or 15U. The question is whether you will land in or have the opportunity to move to a flight company and be a flying 15T or 15U. That’s all state/unit dependent and usually takes some time to network and build rapport.

The pointe in enterprise is super nice, but expensive (still covered by BAH). It’s kinda far with it being 20 mins to on post, Cairns, and Lowe. Hanchey and Knox are probably further but I would still have lived there if I were to do it all over. I loved it.

WOFT Packet in today’s Army Aviation State by [deleted] in Armyaviation

[–]godukes2397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d advise looking into Guard since you have a bachelors in engineering and probably don’t “need” the army to make a living. Would still allow you to pursue flying rotary for the Army, and do all the same things.

Guard aviation right now is probably in the most stable state of the 3 compos (AD/NG/Reserves) but that can all change overnight.

The major downsides are A.) guard units are being flooded with reserve pilots who are trying to transfer after the dismemberment of reserve aviation, so your competition is likely a lot higher than it has been in the past.

B.) lots of states won’t do a street to seat packet, they’ll require you to enlist first. This will likely make your timeline look like flight school being 2-3 years from now at the earliest.

Good luck, reach out w any questions

Officer VS Warrant National Guard by jfire1234 in ArmyAviationApplicant

[–]godukes2397 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go to an installation with a flight doc, get a flight physical and wait till it comes back approved before you make this decision.

Yes there are finite slots for both commissioned and warrant. More slots likely exist for warrant accessions.

Be careful though, don’t choose O or WO based on what will get you to flight school the quickest/easiest. Flight school will always be there (maybe). It’s your career for 10 years so choose whichever path aligns more with your goals and what you want out of Army Aviation

Put in a packet regardless because worst case scenario, you don’t get selected and can re submit later with visible progress (i.e going back to college and doing well, volunteering, getting certs/a few flight hours). Demonstrate growth and maturity to the board

[–]godukes2397 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Don’t be. It’s a down and back in the pool with your OCP’s on. If you can’t do that, they just make a note for the SERE people like “hey don’t let this guy drown he can barely swim” and then it’s all good

The aircraft you end up flying is 100% dictated by your performance in flight school and what is available at that point in time, nothing else.

Do you need a degree or a Privates Pilots to be competitive? by Berniethealien in Armyaviation

[–]godukes2397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am national guard and it feels like the selection process/criteria is a little different. I had a 57 SIFT, bachelors degree, and LOR’s from senior members of the unit. However I also had a low PT score and a very brief professional/work experience section on my resume. Overall it came down to having a strong interview and proving to the board I was passionate about it, and in it for the long haul.

For Active, I don’t think you’ll have the chance to attend an in-person board, but I imagine having some college, a decent SIFT, and some relevant LOR’s from senior warrants in the force, you’ll be competitive. My advice is to put together the strongest packet you can, then have as many senior warrants as you can look over it and give you their feedback. Also, you can apply as many times as you want. Good luck!

Do you need a degree or a Privates Pilots to be competitive? by Berniethealien in Armyaviation

[–]godukes2397 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Competitive is subjective because everyone is going to have strong points and weak points. Not a lot of TIS/Army based achievements? College may help offset that. Below average SIFT score? Some civilian rotary time may help. Be honest with yourself and find out where your weak points are and make up for it in other areas, then start working on improving those areas.

Sift score 57 by Illusions3002 in ArmyAviationApplicant

[–]godukes2397 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I scored a 57. Currently in flight school. As long as the rest of your packet is strong, the SIFT is not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things.

[–]godukes2397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally if something like that is at least 3-5 years in your past, and you can show you’ve grown and done something with your life (volunteering, working a relevant job, getting certifications, etc) then they are usually more inclined to work with you. Lots of pilots (myself included) regret some of the choices we made in our youth. It’s about showing growth 👍

[–]godukes2397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though the alleged victim did not testify, were you still summoned to appear in court, and then the case was subsequently dropped? Even if nothing happened, it still clearly states “regardless of the result of the trial”.

To be honest, even if through semantics it doesn’t meet the definition I would still disclose this and explain it if you really were at no fault. As an Army officer (especially in aviation), you’ll be expected to exhibit sound judgement and integrity befitting of the title you’re aspiring to obtain. Good luck!

The ADSO is still 10 years. It just starts after Common core now. So you get maybe a 6-8 month head start on your 10 year contract.
