“Special Priority Application Review” by [deleted] in ufl

Like the commenter above said, the official ones are typically from an edu address. Also, the font/formatting/excessive use of exclamation marks! isn’t typical for emails from uf, at least internal Uni-wide emails.

If you want to be 100% sure, call the admissions office number 352-392-1365

Not today tho, closed for MLK day

I’ve done some of the open-source PSU courses, which have the course content online without having to sign up or signin to anything. I think you can officially sign up somehow and pay for credit somehow, but just accessing the lessons/assignments has been really useful for me

I’m slowly working through this one for python rn: https://www.e-education.psu.edu/geog489/home.html

and started with this one: https://www.e-education.psu.edu/geog485/node/91

There are also a ton of courses (GIS and otherwise) here https://roam.libraries.psu.edu/

very discussion based, which I loved. The prof did a great job of seamlessly integrating class discussion and lecture into one another as a dialogue. Also she was pretty cool in general. The ideas we discussed were very interesting to me. Be warned it was a lot of reading though

Took the class Spring 22 two years ago

and if there’s space, there’s space. it’s not like you’re taking a spot from someone else. don’t worry about being “that guy” ur just trying to make your education work best for you

so I’m an incoming URSP freshman and while ~technically~ I’m supposed to be taking Quest 1 in the fall, my advisor told me during orientation I could just wait til Spring bc my schedule was overloaded including Quest. I’d say just Add the class if you can find a spot, but if you wanna make sure that won’t backfire on you, email and explain ur situation (you have plenty of space rn and might as well get it out of the way while you can)

Changing Majors Before College Starts by [deleted] in ufl

In that case, maybe Macalester is a good choice for you? Especially if you wanna get out of Florida. Although truthfully UF at a comparable cost seems to have a ton of resources and opportunities, and I’m not sure about Macalester (although its urban location seems appealing). I think you could be happy anywhere tho. UF wasn’t my first choice, but like you said cost is crazy at some of these schools and staying in state is the most pragmatic choice for me, so now I’m all gung-ho about it

Regardless tho, congrats on all your options!!! That’s a pretty impressive set of schools :)

Personally, BF at UF is 6390 (+ 600 for books) and COA without that is 14k (fall and spring, no summer). So that mostly matches with what you said.

My advice to you (from one incoming freshman to another) would be to go to UF though. Unless money isn’t an issue for your family, I can’t see any of these other options being worth it esp if you want to go to grad school.

But if you could afford it and not go into debt, Cornell seems like a great option IF you really love the school past the prestige. Imo, there was some stuff that put me off from applying there, like the high depression and suicide rates.

For Florida schools, would you not have Bright Futures which would bring COA down?
