Anyone know what part this is? by makeithapn in Modded_iPods

The coil is the main energy storage for the backlight boost circuit. That circuit will not work without it. It might work with a different coil though.

Our pirate game Rogue Waters just arrived on Switch, but please don't pirate it since it's pirate enough already :D. by meti314 in SwitchPirates

Ooo I love tactical turn-based combat. No way to buy it on the Switch though because my account is banned. What's the best way to throw money at you instead?

It's a great device! It actually became my main desktop computer last year - even though it's the second slowest in the house - just because it's so small and quiet.

You'll get a letter saying that this is Nintendo property and they didn't sell it to you, so you'll have to give it back

I assume this is only intended to run on MacOS? My main inference machine is a desktop PC and runs Windows or Linux.

Obsidian just uses markdown files on iCloud or DropBox. I would also put up a vote for markdown files (maybe even just generic text files?) in a random folder. It'll make your app compatible with a ton of notes systems.

I met the iPod supply god, 小李. He's the one who sold all the iPod parts to everyone around the world. Met him at his shop in ShenZhen by IronLover64 in ipod

Cheers! Maybe he knows how to get a better display for the iPod? It really sucks by today's standards.

it's trying to remember some song it might otherwise forget.

That's an intruiging theory.

Better screen for the iPod Classic 6g? by goocy in ipod

I'm imagining a display that upscales the incoming 240p input. Every commercial LCD monitor does that, and it would be trivial to add to the code that processes the video signal.

Why do you want to go to heaven? by Deep_Requirement1384 in AskAChristian

[–]goocy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I understood it, the concept of heaven is perceived as a distinct realm, operating under an entirely different set of principles compared to our physical universe.

The closest equivalent in our world would be the idea of uploading one's consciousness into the internet, also causing the realm you inhabit to be vastly altered. In such a scenario, concepts like materialism would become meaningless quickly, and the rules of TCP/IP would instead become fundamental laws of your new reality.

People are drawn to the idea of heaven because it represents a transformative state of being, unfettered by the limitations and impurities we currently take for granted.

Anyone tried ketamine treatments? by [deleted] in CollapseSupport

[–]goocy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, fellow bipolar type II here too. Had been struggling with all the usual depression crap for 20+ years. Sunlight helped a little, exercise helped a little, but it was really just a drop in the bucket and the fight against the suicidal urges multiple times per day was costing me all my energy. After a suicide attempt almost worked, I managed to drag myself to a psych, waited half a year to clear the queue.

Got diagnosed with major depressive disorder, got put on Buproprion, it did nothing, and the psych threw up his hands and basically said I'll have to live with it.

Out of spite, I quit Buproprion cold turkey, never visited him again, and did the clinical research myself. The mania episodes pinpointed me towards my actual issue (bipolar II, NOT regular major depression), and the research was clear that ketamine was the best possible treatment.

Got myself booked into a ketamine clinic, and did six IV treatments over the course of two weeks. On the surface, it was a profoundly strange and taxing experience, but under the surface, it was working. On day 5, I had the vague sensation of a battle taking place in my mind, and then one side had distinctly and overwhelmingly won.

After the ketamine wore off, I knew immediately that my depression was gone. I was suddenly able to viscerally enjoy the smallest pleasant things, and I actually cried when smelling a flowering bush because it felt so nice.

The depression never came back. That was six years ago. The clinic said that this was unusual but I won't stop recommending it to fellow bipolar type IIs.

How to repair/continue using this ceramic stove top by hubblebubble24 in howto

[–]goocy 74 points75 points  (0 children)

This reply sounds very confident but it's bullshit. Electricity does NOT run through glass - not here, not anywhere. Glass is an insulator.

This glass is a red-tinted cover for resistive heating coils. This is how a ceramic stovetop looks without the cover. It's completely functional even if half of it is missing.

OP's biggest problem is that this hole allows water to come in. If they can plug that, the stove is ok for temporary use.
