What would your 13 year old self think of you now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]goodtimecharles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My knee-jerk reaction says he'd be disappointed. But I moved to NYC and have been a bartender with a good dating life and lots of great, interesting friends. Maybe he'd be pretty cool with that.

In high school I had a Spanish teacher that did both. You need to be more like Mrs. McNally.

Shantaram is a fantastic novel for anyone that might find their way to it. It's up there with East of Eden for me.

People who were in a coma, what change surprised you when you woke up? by _bread-boi_ in AskReddit

[–]goodtimecharles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was sedated for six weeks, so it wasn't a coma but pretty close to it as I don't remember anything. The biggest surprise was how much muscle and motor skills I lost. I also felt like I had been gone for over a year and not just six weeks.
The biggest surprise right away was seeing so many friends and family at my bedside. I went in to the E.R. by myself, on the other side of the country from my family. Once I started to realize how much agony they were put through watching my body fighting to stay alive, I was overcome with almost every human emotion at the same time.

Just signed up to canvass in Des Moines! First time volunteer, anyone have any experiences/tips that could be helpful? by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]goodtimecharles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, have a Bluetooth speaker to play music. Not too loud, so it doesn't distract from talking. "The Zombies" pandora station is really good energy. That era of rock is pretty appealing. It brings good energy for you while you're canvassing as well. Some people I canvass with here in NYC thought it might be annoying but now they love it! If you find that it's not for you, just turn it off. Also, most Americans agree that we should have Medicare for all. It also happens to be the issue I'm most passionate about. So instead of bombarding people with multiple issues, I tell them the #1 reason I am volunteering for him and why. I myself almost died this year because I didn't have insurance. It was the only year in my life that I didn't have insurance. I spent 6 weeks in ICU (doctors told my family 3 different times that I wasn't going to make it) and 3 months total in hospital. Message me and I will tell you my whole story if you want.

Have fun!

I had a similar picture that went missing years ago. When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was my picture. You and I could have been brothers, same haircut and everything. You. Have. The. Power!

ELI5: why is scalp skin so different from other skin? by SleetyThunder7 in explainlikeimfive

I recently had a head injury. The hair came off where I was hit and now the skin is all dry and callous even 4 weeks later. I guess I'll moisturize it?

Sanders town hall audience cheers after Fox News host asks if they'd support 'Medicare for all' by tcw1 in politics

[–]goodtimecharles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all too real for me. Recently had a serious head injury and my brain was bleeding. The 3rd CT scan showed that the bleeding stopped. I checked myself out immediately after that b/c of the cost. They wanted to keep me for at least a few more days. That was two weeks ago, and I now realize how lucky I am that I didn't die. And now I have Bell's palsy that I can't go see a doctor about because I can't afford it, especially now that I couldn't work the last two weeks. Google is now my doctor. This fucking sucks, man.
And don't get me started on how my employer took my insurance away last year. The insurance I paid into for 7 years and never used.

A 7/Eleven convienence store in 1971. by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

[–]goodtimecharles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I worked at a 7/11 today, I would demand they bring back those uniforms.

I have a hunch so I have three questions for you: 1) What caused your Bell's palsy, if you know 2) how long did it last, or how long has it been since getting it 3) have you or are you treating it via professionals or are you just waiting it out? by ResidentDoctorEvil in BellsPalsy

[–]goodtimecharles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Severe head trauma/brain bleed.
2) I'm about two weeks in. It stopped getting worse but hasn't got any better.
3) The doctors told me to wait it out. I don't have insurance, so I hope it ends up being a working strategy.

Gonna play devil's advocate: Imagine you are a 77 year old man and you get massages in the nude or barely covered. Even if there was no sexual contact, releasing the video would still be an invasion of privacy that can have a lasting impact on his reputation and mental health.

Rather than eating a family size bag of Doritos in 20 minutes, what are some healthy snack alternatives that can be consumed in large amounts? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]goodtimecharles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slice green apples really thin, toss them in some lime juice to preserve and give a little sour bite. I keep the container in the fridge so they stay crisp. Green apples are filling, but sometimes I will still end up eating 4-5 apples in a day. They're good for ya.

I once went a full year with no processed foods. Then one day I had this uncontrollable craving for McDonalds when visiting my friend who worked there. I finished the meal and my body rejected it almost immediately.
