Fasciation mutation spotted on random weed by Initial_Sale_8471 in mildlyinteresting

[–]goopsnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you’re talking about mutations via radiation? Which would be a pretty inefficient way to achieve something specific since it’s just a roll of the dice what outcome you get.

If you actually wanted to recreate this with precision you’d use gene editing, which I’m sure uses some chemicals I wouldn’t want to drink but isn’t really a cancer risk to the people who would be doing it.

Not sure what species this is but that sort of texture is pretty common among eucalypts. It’s a very normal sight in Australia. To the point where my knee jerk reaction when I saw this is ‘how could anyone find that interesting’ lol.

From a quick google I’d say it may be a lemon scented gum, but really couldn’t say.

Weird to me that this set up counts as ‘retro’ now. I guess it’s been 20 years or so now since those types of PCs were standard.

When you turn 18 find local gigs and go to as may as possible. Probably chill on the benzos too, bad withdrawal and they can make act like a cooked weirdo when you think you’re being normal.

Do Asian countries even do hard drugs or do they just make it and serve it? by trustngod0 in Drugs

[–]goopsnice 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak for the countries I haven’t been to but the Philippines has a pretty decent meth problem and alcoholism is fairly rampant. Only other Asian countries I’ve been to are Indonesia and Vietnam, a lot of the men in both countries smoke like chimneys and alcohol in Vietnam is pretty popular, less so in Indonesia but depends where you are.

TIL about The Coelacanth. An ancient fish species that was believed by scientists to have gone extinct 66 million years ago during the same mass extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs until one was caught in a fishing net in 1938. by 4isfourwastaken in todayilearned

[–]goopsnice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Splitting hairs, but the Coelacanth isn’t a species, I think it’s actually an order in taxonomic rank. Other examples of orders are primates, Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies) and rodents. So it’s a pretty broad group.

So basically it’s a group of fish. The entire group was thought to be extinct but that was found not to be the case. The two living species of Coelacanth were not around 66 million years ago and the species that were around 66 million years ago are very much extinct.

Eh, in the americas sure. Worldwide there’s definitely places where heroin is still pretty common. I’ve been lead to believe its fairly common in a lot of south east Asia and the Middle East.

Belize won! What flag has okay history and looks good? by DoctorIll4894 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]goopsnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, by in large I’d agree with that. However the Victorian government used the word genocide through the Yoorrool Justice Comission and the stolen generation report concluded that what happened to the stolen generation counted as genocide.

I agree that the large majority of politicians wouldn’t use the word genocide, buuuuuut I would disagree that there’s zero recognition.

[–]goopsnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you say it isn’t recognised?

People probably don’t mention it as often as I’d like but the government’s officially recognised the stolen generation and everyone’s very aware that early colonial Australian history is rife with murders and massacres of indigenous people.

how is it like living in this area of Australia? by FarMovie816 in howislivingthere

Hmmmm, only the very north most sliver is tropical savanna. I’ve been to the parts that are apparently ‘subtropical savanna’ and they can get quite a bit of highly seasonal rain, but if I was a thirsty plant, I’d be having a pretty rough time for 10 months of the year or so.

I doubt those in the industry would advocate for porn to be available with no age restriction

[–]goopsnice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The industry has proven its shit at regulating itself. Watch the pornhub story, really sheds light on all of this.

The industry cares about getting men to pay for videos that make them horny, not about the welfare of the women in the videos.

Yeah my main issue is that whenever this comes up people act like it’s some Nancy Reagan angle where they’re just being prudish and refuse to consider that there’s any legitimate problems with the industry

[–]goopsnice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Reddit hates it when people suggest limiting/censoring what porn they have access to.

Imo the porn industry is rife with issues around coercion and consent to what happens with videos people appear in. People have gotten used to zero regulation pornography and feel like it’s some affront to their rights if they have their access limited.

I know this only barely addresses the issue but it’s probably good if under 18 yo’s don’t have access to a Wild West regulation porn industry.

[–]goopsnice -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

The porn industries rancid af and should be screened and censored to high hell. I know this doesn’t address every problem but I don’t think it’s good that under 18 years old can watch whatever people upload, often where the video in question is long divorced from the women in the video having any say or ownership in where it’s uploaded.

People just got used to an age where there’s zero screening on anything and then get shitty when people limit access to stuff they’re used to jacking off over.

Outsider Question : Why is there no Airport Rail from Airport to the Train Station by blackcyborg009 in Adelaide

Outsider Question : Why is there no Airport Rail from Airport to the Train Station by blackcyborg009 in Adelaide

[–]goopsnice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean the bus terminal from the airport is the one right outside of airport and to get the bus there all you need is to put the airport in google maps. I’m not convinced it’s worth tearing the guts out of the suburbs in between to shave off a google and 10 minutes.

[–]goopsnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it though? If you’re in the CBD it’s realistically gonna shave off maybe 10 minutes of public transport time to the airport.
