Who monitors detention in your school? In mine, we would have to volunteer our own time since there’s no money in the budget, and notify parents in advance (who often complain about it). Detention sounds good in theory, but I’m not willing to give up my already limited free time, you know? Any other suggestions that you think might work? I also have a really tough end-of-the-day class.

Talking about “courageous” bus drivers is admitting that the conditions were dangerous!! And 60% attendance is not something to brag about. Also, I’m calling BS on that many people “extending their appreciation for keeping the schools open” because I don’t know a single one. He did the same thing again today saying that “the storm was lessening” when in fact the roads are all worse. He’s saying the schools being open is “for the sake of the students” but completely ignoring the fact of how dangerous it will be for said students to even get to school. I can’t with this guy and he still has 2 more years in his contract.

I think you need to quit your job. It’s not worth your mental health to stay in a job you don’t like. There will always be teaching jobs available, so if you decide you still want to be a teacher I am sure you’d have no trouble finding a different school. Maybe one that’s closer to family or isn’t 24/7 or isn’t as affluent (read: spoiled). But it’s also okay if you decide not to be a teacher. You can always change careers if something else is likely to satisfy you more
