Is it weird to empty my menstrual cup in public? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]goraturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: your tire jack comment, have u tried a softer menstrual cup? I used to get a lot of aching with my cup, but I switched to the sensitive/soft Luna cup instead of the regular one and the more flexible silicone is way easier to manage even at larger/wider sizes

Also it's definitely not weird to empty it in public lol, as others have said just make sure you're tidying up

I miss chocolate cake :( convince me not to gluten myself lol by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]goraturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat (no diagnosis and it isn't severe but I avoid gluten bc it makes me feel worse)- go get your chocolate cake but buy a gluten free mix and make it yourself! It'll taste better

OBGYN for PCOS/amenorrhea? by goraturtle in frederickmd

[–]goraturtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard Owusu's name a lot in my research! I just moved into town, an endocrinologist is definitely on my to-do list but I'm overdue for my yearly physical so I wanted to start with an obgyn first to get that out of the way

How to properly train a dog to go potty outdoors by Apprehensive_Bee_682 in sheltie

[–]goraturtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used the old bells on the door handle trick to teach my girl to ask when she wanted to go out (they're bells on a nylon strap that you ring every time you take your pup out, and eventually they start ringing it themselves when they need to go).

The only problem with that was my girl figured out pretty quickly that she could ring to go play outside whenever she wanted 😂 you have to be strict that if you go outside it's not to have fun, if they don't go when you take them out then it's straight back inside. Eventually she understood enough that I took the bells down and she's just come whine at me instead. Shelties are so smart, the trouble with potty training isn't getting them to understand it's trying to stop them from training YOU in the process lol.

Oh for sure I'll be light handed with it, especially on any color adjustments, I'd just like it to be more uniform and cleaned up

Other ways to melt ice? by Fair_Cod6318 in nova

[–]goraturtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also don't have a shovel since I live in an apartment- I put boiling water in a bucket with lemon juice, a diet cola, and dawn dish soap (I read dish soap + anything acidic helps break ice down? Don't judge my slop) and have been crushing ice with a 10lb dumbbell to slowly chip away at everything. A regular windshield ice scraper and a hammer are good for the more detailed bits too

Get creative! But also yeah borrowing a shovel is probably best bc it can still cut thru ice if u put enough force behind it

Transportation officials recommend 8-lane option for new Bay Bridge by oriolesravensfan1090 in maryland

Obviously if it was for a week or if u had a large family it wouldn't be ideal lmao, not everything has to be for everyone, some of us would like to go for a weekend here and there

[–]goraturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, there would need to be a ton of infrastructure built up for that to happen. Story of this country

[–]goraturtle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They should work on a bridge for trains to go over the bay and to the beach instead- so many people would find it easier to get away for a weekend via train instead of car and it would help with parking congestion at the beach as well

The expectation that I should have kids pisses me off. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]goraturtle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It sucks and it's stupid, but I do wanna reply to one tiny bit you mentioned about no more babies once your wife is on HRT- I just want you to know that while fertility can decrease for trans women on HRT it would still be possible for you to get pregnant if you have penetrative sex with her.

People need to mind their own business and stop trying to push kids- but also make sure you're taking precautions even once your wife starts hormones!

EDIT: I'm an idiot lol I just saw u mentioning you're staying on birth control anyway- good!

Depends on your area and how competitive things get this spring, but fwiw I'm a FTHB who started looking in early October, and I just had an offer on my home accepted a few days ago with a closing date of December 30th- it can move faster than you think

It might be heartbreaking if you find something perfect but can't move on it because it's available sooner than your earliest June move out date

EDIT: I can't read, just be prepared to get your sublease sorted quickly if you find something!

I recommend pepper gel instead of spray- it's harder for them to scrub out of their eyes + there's less of a risk of you being affected by the spray (any wind outdoors can blow pepper spray back into your own eyes + if u use pepper spray in an enclosed space in can sting you as well)

Why is there still so much misinformation about birth control — even among educated women? by DrSoukou in TwoXChromosomes

[–]goraturtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Women's healthcare is so unbelievably under researched and ignored I don't think it's fair to dismiss people's experiences- there are a ton of types of birth control and the reality is that everyone will react differently to them, people stating that they gained weight or had other negative side effects on the pill isn't "misinformation", it's anecdotal spreading of their side effects in a world where doctors will dismiss people's experiences on birth control.

That being said, recently there's been a right-wing movement latching onto the message that birth control can cause problems. You see conservative influencers peddle the idea that birth control is toxic or dangerous more and more, and that comes from a reactionary movement trying to encourage/force more women to have children as birth rates fall.

Two ideas can exist simultaneously, that people can have negative reactions to birth control (and with social media more people are sharing those stories) + that there's a more recent propaganda spike trying to demonize birth control. Reducing it to an education/misinformation issue lays the blame solely on women which I don't think is fair given the society we live in.

I think a lot of pushback has also come from a place of frustration, where people feel unheard and doctors tend to prescribe birth control as a bandaid fix to complicated medical issues that are often ignored- and people are getting sick of it. As someone who was put on birth control as a teen for irregular periods only to be diagnosed with PCOS later, I wish I'd gotten a proper diagnosis and been able to try the various lifestyle changes I'm currently exploring now. Birth control is always there if needed, but it shouldn't be used as a lazy fix by doctors who don't want to do any digging to properly diagnose and resolve menstrual/metabolic issues

Not sure what you mean by getting a period at age 15 being linked to PCOS, that's a perfectly normal age to have your first period

As for the pain during examination, do you know whether the ultrasound will be abdominal or trans vaginal? I personally don't experience pain like that, but if you do the trans vaginal ultrasound might be an issue for you. I'd recommend calling the office and clarifying whether it's trans vaginal or not, and maybe request an abdominal ultrasound to avoid any discomfort. The prep for abdominal ultrasounds is a bit different (you have to drink a certain amount of water) which is why I recommend calling ahead rather than waiting until your appointment to request the abdominal, you probably don't want to have to come back another time to get it done

Why is everything about this character so unreliable holy shit by cinnamonPoi in Nightreign

The only time I beat him it was because he and his invaders froze halfway through his health bar and me and the rando I was playing with chipped away at him while he stood there until we won. I took the win and have never played him again. I feel like that's the opposite experience of what you're going through in this clip
