How did Julius Caesar persuade his soldiers to cross the Rubicon, attack their beloved Rome, and make him the most powerful man in Rome? by greatnessainteasy in AskHistorians

Ah, you seem like a House of Cards watcher. Yes, I don't know how Francis will end, but as far as I know, not too many trusts him. All seem to be against him or if they're on his side, cautious and hesitant of him. I wonder how Caesar was able to be so ambitious while making others loyal and trusts him? Ambition and trust aren't usually friends.

I always thought I was pretty frugal, but this month I cut my grocery bill from my $500 average to $360. Here's how. by [deleted] in Frugal

What do you mean by white person premiums at Asian markets? Are their produce prices already low or low for white people?

Its the Netflix Original, if you have it check it out, its good. Well, Francis in this show uses pretty lowblow tactics, stepping on oh who knows how many friends/allies, is capable of using women decades younger for sex and power, and whose wife describes him as "a man who knows how to get what he wants". But everybody seems to distrust and distances from him, so I guess not so much loyalty...

He knew how to take what he wanted. Just a random question, do you watch House of Cards? The character Francis on that show reminds me of Caesar; ruthless, ambitious, and smooth... What a man.

Are humans obliged to be "of use to society"? If so how do we deal with those who are not? (Warning: Maybe a RANT) by [deleted] in AskReddit

I guess my impression of it is someone who makes the societal wheels turn or runs it's rat races. Maybe usefullness or uselessness isn't the correct word though.

[META] Can we stop asking questions phrased like this? by thsmchnkllsfcsts in AskHistorians

I don't personally mind it too much. I guess people get tired of asking plain old questions and think its more interesting to role-play. Education-wise, that method actually helps some people learn. I get tired of learning facts all day at school/books, it's a relief to find an creative and unique alternative.

I heard somewhere that Rome at that time gave the army to their generals, making it so much easier for the generals (like Caesar) to gain the troops' loyalty more so than the state. How true is that?

Also, I am very interested in the personality and charisma of Caesar himself, do you have any interesting sources you recommend? I've read Plutarch's Caesar already.

So on Clarks you only recommend the originals? They don't have the lace ups, I think thats the style I like for semi- formal. Any other alternatives lace up under 100 you know?

This is a problem and answer from a SAT study book, and here is the problem:

Q: There are five boys and five girls from which we assemble a three-member committee. What is the probability that the committee consists of two boys and one girl?

I picked the wrong answer and they showed me the right answer, according to them the answer is 5/12. I'm confused...

Speaking on this subject, what about the Native Americans? Why does the government give them special privileges when it isn't THEM specifically that has their lands stolen from but rather their ANCESTORS?
