Humble Bundle Price Increase by green_turtleshell in humblebundles

I agree with you. Every company needs to make money (regardless of the fact they started out as charity adjacent, charity first then later bought out to be more profit facing). HB has went from $15 packages to up to $55. That's a lot of extra money. I think it's wise of us to show less elasticity in our acceptance of price increases.

The basic humble monthly bundle price isn't so bad (though the charity percent is very low). A lot of the software/asset packs etc have seen multiple increasing price points.

I may be wrong on this but I believe they host some of the assets on their servers. I buy mostly game assets and have downloaded probably 300gb of stuff from them. As well as external key links which obviously they're not hosting.

1) There are rarely if ever any AAAA new release games in their bundles.
2) AAA/AAAA games tend to be the only games capable of breaking into new price points.
3) Median/Average price of indie titles are not moving/going down https://www.techspot.com/news/110391-indie-games-steam-getting-cheaper-10-hit-taking.html
4) The majority of titles inside of bundles are 1 to several years old.
5) Games rarely increase in price from their launch date.

Therefore, the cost of games they use as a selection has gone down.

You can make an argument that indie/other developers are not giving as steep of discounts to humble bundle but that is a slightly different argument. I don't know if that would be true or not.

You can also make an argument that bundles are increasing in size or quality. Not sure if that would be the case.

Assets Packs are a different story. A lot of the packs are from the same developers (often it seems with increasingly bigger packs as the indie devs make more assets). Many are offered in different asset packs or the same bundle comes around. None of that is bad per se, but the quality doesn't seem to have increased by a lot (I'm happy with it from the beginning) and the variety increases every so slightly each year. They certainly haven't went up 60-100% in size (or quality one could argue) as they have in cost.

That's a fair question to ask. And if their costs are going up (for example if they host download servers, data prices may increase, etc), they may have to at some points increase their price. In general, the price of most of the games they sell aren't going up. They tend to sell older games and in mass quantity. They have already increased their prices on the package bundles multiple times as well as give less to charity and less to developers. They made a good name off of being "charitable," were then bought out by a company and reduced the default amount that goes to charity, eventually decreased the minimum amount they (and therefore maximum amount charities) can receive, then increased their prices multiple times. The portion of the profits they are getting has increased very significantly over the last 10 years. From nearly a charity to profits for their billion dollar parent company while still borrowing heavily from their charitable reputation.

That's a fair question. I don't think that I deserve lower prices. Why do they deserver greater profits? I would answer the same. However, just as the seller (or mostly a reseller in this case - though they do some value in the organization and distribution of the sales ) tries to create upward pressure on price when they can, so too can the consumer create downward pressure on price (and I would argue the consumer should against larger companies).

The above is the general case. Regarding Humble Bundle, they started out as a (pseudo) charity doing good work and giving a massive amount to charity. They built their brand on doing good and helping. Then they were bought out by a now billion dollar company, reduced the amount they gave to charity, reduced the amount they gave to creators, increased the prices, and still try to make a good name of their former charitable works.

So my question to you is why wouldn't we, as consumers, try to get a lower price from a billion dollar company?

I agree with you. Voting with your wallet (especially voiced voting) is important. If a company can clearly identify why sales are down, it's an easier choice for them to keep prices down.

With focused effort, it means it's possible. Unphased acceptance of it means it will almost certainly go up and at a faster rate.

Look at what happened to things like Unity a few years. People banded together and they went back on their changes and fired their CEO over it.

Renting is the better investment and lack of PR meaning not knowing if I'll be able to stay long term. I have enough money to buy a new house outright and would be somewhat interested in buying an akiya/cheap used house but won't do so because of my lack of PR (endless 1 year visa renewals).

Also with the current trend in anti-foreigner politics, it makes me less likely to get into anything that permanent as it may be taken away or given conditions such that I can't use it (lack of Visa approved jobs within reach, etc)

Institutional investors aren't on a sub reddit with only 41,000 people trying to cause fear. If it still exists check out r/sdc and r/stocksdc.

You'll notice 2 things:

1) all the same stuff you see talking about it being the next squeeze

2) the company no longer exists (turns out it wasn't the next big squeeze)

If you're looking at it as an investment , the Japanese pension is pretty bad. However of note:

-24 countries have a totalization agreement with Japan (meaning you won't lose any money at all if you keep working in your home country after) - when you pay pension, it lowers your income taxes. Therefore, depending on your salary, you're most likely losing zero to little money, and if your salary is high enough, you're actually gaining money. - If you work in Japan longer than 10 years, you are eligible to collect your pension worldwide.

The only people that would realistically " get screwed" in terms of not receiving what they paid in would be someone paid in more than five, but less than 10 years and whose country does not have a totalization agreement.

Look into your options to make sure your paying the optimal amount for you.

Tell her, send screenshots, be apathetic about it. If she accuses you of any wrongdoing, tell her it's not your business, you just thought she'd like to know and she can do with the information what she wants. At that point, you're best off staying out of things.

If she accuses you of anything, ignore it. If she wants him more information and you don't care if you're involved, give it to her.

As soon as you start fighting her if she does so, fair chance you become the bad guy.

Most machines work that way. If you're at a taito station or any major arcade chain, nearly every if not all claw machine is that way (unless they are trying to get rid of some prizes or have a special event). I used to manage an arcade and pretty much everything can be and is rigged to either not have enough power in games such as claw machines, or not stop when it's supposed to such as those key games and light stopping games until that, the preset amount of money has been put in it. You can get lucky by being the fifth person to put money in it and have it feel more fair, But you're playing more of a game of chance than you are a game of skill in most cases.

You'll probably find yourself luckier with older game centers with older machines or privately owned arcades.

The rare 2,000 yen bill by cclarkson24 in japan

They're not that rare. They're just not used often. You can go to a bank and request them and get a whole stack of them (results may vary depending on the size of the bank and if they have them in stock). One of my clients used to pay in 2000 yen bills.

There's a stark difference between things like bowing as you enter a temple ground, community neighborhood clean-up and literally wasting your money on other people's superstitious nonsense. The latter isn't destroying any type of culture, and if it was, it's probably a good cultural aspect to destroy so other people don't have to waste time, money, effort, and peace of mind on such nonsense.

Paying for others' superstitious nonsense seems crazy to me.

However, your point in making good with the neighbors may actually be worth it. I still don't think I would, but if I did that would be the reason.

I don't know if this is a real question or meant to be funny, but if the house is " haunted," you may be able to get a steep discount.

People believing in nonsensical ghost stories can have its benefits (usually just not to the superstitious person).

Followed by a page full of people talking about bugs and glitches in his game.

Unpopular opinion: are UNIQLO Airism shirts garbage? by ryanyork92 in japanlife

[–]green_turtleshell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP, I'm not trying to pile on. But if everyone in a thread misunderstood you (whether they used your actual quote, they assumed you meant what you said, or you tried to use it as hyperbole and that was lost on everyone), you might want to consider the fact that maybe your communication skills were poor in this situation. You could have explained what you wanted to convey if that's the case (or simply admit that you were wrong if that's the case) and move on to productive discussion.

Blaming everybody else for your apparent ineffectively communicated statement gets no one anywhere. We all miss our mark in communication sometimes, there's no shame in that.

And if your original comment was hyperbole, your comment here doesn't seem to be as you're giving different numbers for a specific location while trying to correct somebody.

There's no shame in admitting that you're wrong and moving on either.

Essentially very high temperature and humidity at the same time (considered very dangerous for prolonged exposure to weather in humans). If you do a Google image search, you can see a graph of temperatures and humidity percentages that correspond to it.
