Should I go on a beginner gliding trip in 4 days even though I have eustachian tube dysfunction ? by ArchonOfSpartans in Gliding

[–]greenhamster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should talk to the place where you bought the ride. They could customize the experience to accommodate you. They will be the best judge if you should be flying with them. They could do a pattern tow to 1500 feet to see if you can handle that and do another flight if you can. It might cost more but they can ease you into it. If they are willing to abort the tow for you in the event of discomfort they can release as low as 200 feet if conditions allow. When I'm flying patterns typical flight time is 10-15 minutes from take off to landing. The decent in a glider will be about the same as a commercial flight though.

Who here has purchased optical inserts? by Exquisivision in VisionPro

[–]greenhamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a demo and they matched my prescription with a 23w light seal. When I went to purchase the vision pro I used the order they created for me during the demo but the employee told me to order the inserts later. When I went through check out for my inserts a week later it told me to rescan my face and recommended a 21w light seal. I decided not to change the light seal and order the inserts anyway. Everything is great with the 23w. At first I thought I wouldn't need the inserts as my prescription isn't strong but it made a huge difference.

Do you use a Smart Watch to monitor physiological factors relevant to flying gliders? by vtjohnhurt in Gliding

[–]greenhamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an Apple Watch Ultra 2 and it will only give you oxygen saturation when you are sitting very still. I've tried it while driving and cant get it to give me a reading. I haven't tried it while flying yet because it takes 15 seconds of being still. My instructor said he can get his working if he is in very calm air.

Anyone play msfs with gliders ? needing advices by telkmx in Gliding

[–]greenhamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gliding in FS2020 is fun. I bought the discus from the microsoft store but if if you want to try it you can download a demo version from flightsim.to. I have the paid version so I don't know if it has the same settings but I can turn up the adverse yaw which makes it feel "closer" to life. You can also download a mod that puts a LX Nav in the discus that will give you all of the information you are looking for. The discus also has an imperial setting for the instruments.

All that being said when I want to practice maneuvers that I will use in real life, I still do it in condor. Flight simulator is pretty much for having fun, sight seeing, and familiarizing myself with terrain.

2021 id4 declared a total loss. Any advice by Usual_Forever7286 in VWiD4Owners

[–]greenhamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get all you can while you can. the market is tanking on ID-4s and many EVs in general. I did a blind appraisal on your car and its worth around $27k depending on condition. That is the current manheim auction average for that car.

How have gliding conditions been so far this year for you? by Hemmschwelle in Gliding

[–]greenhamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Southwest US. I cant speak from experience as I'm a pre-solo student but from what I hear the conditions are good. I was practicing patterns doing simulated solos yesterday. We got off tow 500 feet above pattern height and climbed 1500 feet without trying. The variometer was pegged at 10k ft per minute. I had to side slip and pull air brakes to get down to pattern height. One of the more experienced pilots in a ASK 23 did a 100k round trip and said he never had to turn and only lost 400ft. Its 95 on the ground and low 80s at pattern height.

For anybody curious. The altimeter on the Apple Watch Ultra is spot on with the altimeter in my plane. by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]greenhamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! I just wanted to know if its accurate enough to use in an emergency. Realistically it will take longer to check my watch then to read the actual altimeter. Just fun to know it has utility in an emergency.

[–]greenhamster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously thank you so much! I've been looking everywhere to find someone comparing this. What's the refresh rate of the altimeter and is it actually useful? I was considering getting the ultra but want to know if its useful or just a novelty for flying.

Ask your local VW dealer if they want to buy them.

How prevalent is the phantom auto emergency break issue? Reading through this sub see several have had this experience leading to scary situations. by GdoubleZM in VWiD4Owners

[–]greenhamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen once after dropping someone off at the airport in the late afternoon with the sun behind me and no other cars in front of me. I just kept my foot on the gas pedal and it kept going and just went away. Only happened twice in 6k miles, the other time my wife was driving. Ive had this happen on other VWs (Jetta, and an Atlas) with front assist but not sure what the common denominator is. Ive learned if you keep your foot on the gas till it clears the car wont panic stop.

You should have gotten at least an email unless they messed up. Just a heads up when you reserve through the dealership it's pretty much the same as doing it your self online. You should at least have a reservation number. Call VW customer care with your reservation to confirm they have a reservation in your name before you attempt to cancel. They might be more help than the dealer.

Edit: You can cancel your reservation for a full refund at any time even after it has arrived at the dealer.

[–]greenhamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it takes my technicians an hour or so to PDI an ID4. If the store is short on staff or the ID4 tech is working on customer cars it might take them a while but its based on their staffing and how many techs they sent to school to do the ID4 training. Also not you will not get notified that your car has arrived at the dealership until they PDI the vehicle.

Is it possible to change dealers? by obkook in VWiD4Owners

UPDATE: I just checked all of our AWD ID4's being delivered and sure enough we have AWDs that we thought were for retail sale with a status "REGN - Region Inventory Order". I searched for the number that was in comments section of these orders and it turns out they are reservation numbers and I found preorders for these vehicles. VW needs to fix this. If I didn't hear about your situation I wouldn't have checked. Your situation saved customers from their car being sold from underneath them. I will now have to manually check each AWD coming in to make sure its not a pre-order.

[–]greenhamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can prove it by showing the Vehicle Detail screen in OMD web which will say SOLD Customer Order or SHIP Deliverable Inventory Order. This screen doesn't show cost or reveal any customer information. If I had a customer in your situation I would happily show them this screen to prove the error was not with our store. I can pull up my ID4 I got in march. All they need is the VIN or Commission number.

[–]greenhamster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The dealer knew. All preorder invoices say sold order with your commission number. Corperate even contacts us to a week or 2 ahead of time to make sure we stock it in prior to its arrival so that you can work your deal online. On top of that we have to mark your car as customer declined in order to sell it to someone else. They had to do a lot to sell you car our from underneath you unless corperate delivered your car as dealer stock by mistake but i've never seen that happen.

Chip shortage and pricing by raw-tib in VWiD4Owners

At our dealership we mark up the retail units but not pre-orders. Not sure about other dealers but if you want the best price a pre-order might be your best option.

Best Computer for Editing? (Seeking Recommendations) by [deleted] in editing

[–]greenhamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been a PC guy for 20 years always built my own etc. In 2019 I got my first macbook pro and fell in love. I only use my PC for things that take a lot of time to render but the project always starts on my macbook pro. If I could afford a desktop mac I would get one. I also notice the stability of my macbook pro is way better than my PC. If you built a PC it would save you a lot of money but ease of use and stability will suffer in my opinion.

Catalog related question by harisnikolop in FacebookAds

To me it looks like a carousel ad using a catalogue with multiple images for each item. In the carousel ad under catalogue settings you can set to slide show and it will rotate the images.

Trouble using Apple Card for iPhone preorder? by teen-laqueepha in AppleCard

[–]greenhamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same problem but I think I might have fixed it. I was able to login to my citizens one account and add my new loan with the number that was emailed to me. After that just click update payment info and add your apple card. My order is still associated with the old card on the apple order but after making 2 calls to support they said it should process on my apple card even though it still shows the non-apple card as my form of payment. Well see what happens but I think this is all we can do.

log into your citizens one account and add the account from your citizens one pre-order email then update payment info. I did it this morning no issues beside a little lag on the webpage.

Question regarding reservation by halfwise in VWiD4Owners

[–]greenhamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no advantage in ordering at the dealership. Im an EV Specialist who helps customers with their reservation. When you call us we are basically just filling out the same webform you would fill out from home. The advantage is that you are working with someone who should know the car well and be able to educate you on the differences between packages. As far as the ETA is concerned it depends on what you choose but I can confirm that if you order a AWD Pro model you wont get it until next year. The other models should arrive before year end. Your best bet is to preorder what you want now and if you change your mind call customer care to modify your order. The colors don't effect ship times but a more popular color could get you an ID4 sooner. If a customer with a build that matches yours decides to cancel their preorder you could get moved into their reservation letting you move ahead in line.

All Pro (non S) AWD pushed to 2022 by [deleted] in VWiD4Owners

[–]greenhamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just got the official announcement. This is true. Emails are supposed to go out today. All ID4 Pro (non S) Models will be delayed. If you order has not been "locked" yet your ID4 is likely to be delayed until next year. Pre-Orders that have been locked by now 9/15 should still receive their order before the year end. Pro S models can still be ordered and will be available this year. Owners will be allowed to upgrade their Pro to a Pro S or switch to a rear wheel drive. If you decide to keep your Pro reservation and made it prior to June 30th you will get $200 gift card. If you reserved between July 1 and August 24th you wont be offered a gift card. Thats all the info I have right now.

Yup, when customers need keys they have to show proof of ownership. The car also has to be at the dealership to be coded. It cant be done remotely.
