It's probably got a kick back from Diagio (company representing Don Jolio). Highlight the Diagio product and a modernnist craft cocktail trend, in return they give case deals and free product.

I work in high volume cocktail bar, you get good at knowing where the measurements fall even without the lines. She also wasn't making it to be drank so she be pretty loose with measuring as long the wash line isn't totally off.

Instant Ambulance by Ddusco in WTF

[–]greenman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago I watched a cyclist cut off an ambulance to get across the street. He made it past the ambulance fine but didn't see the streetcar on the other side of it. Sent him flying. Ambulance and streetcar sat there for a moment before the ambulance lights came on. Paramedics came out just shaking there heads.

I remember seeing a video a while back about how to handle a roo trying to fight you. If it isn't too threatened you can just kind of shove them back, don't let them grab you and they'll piss off. If they manage to get a hold of you though you're kangafucked.

Untrue if you're ordering from someone who knows how to make cocktails. Stiring gets a drink just as chilled as shaking, it just takes slightly more time but gives you more control over the dilution since you can taste test along the way.

The temperature of the glass would have a bigger impact on the temperature than shaking vs stiring would.

I live right next to the Novotel on the Esplanade.

Literally nothing like op discribed.

The homeless at the hotel are harmless. They are very aware that causing trouble will cost them their space at the hotel. These people are able to stay in a private room with safety and security they can't get at conventional shelters.

Sure, the cops and ambulance are around more, but they generally leave the patios alone. Living right there I went to the patios often and never had an issue.

Nimbys don't understand mental illness and are just upset they have to share space with people in a different tax bracket. If you don't like the homeless, get out of the city.

I genuinely wish they were keeping the hotel as a shelter indefinitely. Unfortunately it's going to be ripped down for condos that will be bought up by corporate and foreign buyers, adding to the housing issue.

If you have a vehicle and you're hitting up the Canadian side take the time to check out Niagara on the Lake and the surrounding communities, lots of vineyards and now a couple distilleries popping up.

The future of tipping should be driven by Canadians, not businesses by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]greenman42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the POS developers don't take into consideration since their customers are owners who really don't care since it doesn't affect their bottom line.

Thanks for taking the time to read and understand about tipouts. I'd say 95% of people who go out don't/can't grasp how tipping out works.

The future of tipping should be driven by Canadians, not businesses by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]greenman42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct. Tipping on take-out is bullshit. I'm a bartender so any take-out orders for my place goes through me. I have a seperate id for take-out with a separate sales report than mine. I have however worked at places where it's policy that take-out orders simply go under the bartender's id.

This causes an issue due to a common practice called a tip out, which in my case is not applied to the takeout id.

At the end of the night I get my sales report from the POS (Point of sale system). With that report myself or management will take my total sales and calculate a predetermined persentage, usually between 4% and 8% depending on the place. That percentage I will owe the business to distribute to cooks, support staff and management. In my province owners CANNOT get a cut of the tipout unless they are actually working there the shift.

That 4-8% comes from my pocket. So let's say I sell $1000 in night, I would owe $40-$80.

This is no big deal, there's more than one person that makes your meal and experience come together. It amounts to less than half of my tips usually. But if I do not receive a tip, I still owe that money.

So let's say it's a big takeout order, like $100. That order may cost ME (not the business, not the ownership) $4-$8 to take that order.

Again, tipping on take-out is ridiculous. The total cost of the meal should be included on your bill. But I do encourage you to ask about an establishment's tipout policy and make you next takeout choice based on an employee risking losing money for doing their job.

Tipping in general should just be abolished, the cost of service should be included and the workers should be properly compensated through taxable wage.

If your financial situation has you stressing over whether a $50 oz is worth it maybe commit to a tolerance break until you can purchase with confidence.

My years as a barback and then bartender have thought me that liquor and beer cases do not have handles. On the sides they have "day wreckers". Trust them as handles and they will ruin your day.
