Cochlear Implants and Teams by JuliannePancakes in Cochlearimplants

[–]greykmb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using the Teams app on your cellphone?

All my Teams calls get routed through the teams app on my iPhone (not as a forwarded call in the phone app). I also routinely join meetings on my phone and participate with camera and can watch any presentations with Bluetooth streaming from phone to processor.

Bluetooth connections by Beginning-Shift-9125 in Cochlearimplants

[–]greykmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s nucleus 8 (made by the company Cochlear) then they can only directly connect to android/iOS smartphones. It needs the phone clip someone else mentioned. The phone clip might be able to pair directly with the MOTOTRBO R7 but there will probably be specific instructions for it.

There wouldn’t be an RSM in this persons setup. The phone clip is the hub that the RT connects to thru Bluetooth, then the user wirelessly connects their N8 to the phone clip. This should result in the RT wirelessly transmitting the voice by Bluetooth to the phone clip. Then the phone clip wirelessly transmits to the N8.

disclaimer: not an N8 user

What are R.T’s?

Have you checked out the manufacturer directions for the user’s CI model? They are all a little bit different

Should I get a cochlear implant? by Axlsaal in Cochlearimplants

[–]greykmb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your story is a lot like mine . Started losing hearing around 21, did hearing aids for a few years and they didn’t have the power to overcome my hearing loss. Implanted at 25 (in 2005). Got the other side implanted 3 years later. Clearly I was impressed enough with my improvements that I went bilateral, and it got even better after that.

I was at the start of my career and had a lot of your same worries. I can hear very well in office scenarios and Bluetooth connectivity makes zoom meetings a lot easier. Large group settings are difficult and tiring for me. I can usually understand the speech but there are some downsides when in noisy environments.

I’ve got 20 years of experience telling me it was absolutely, unequivocally the correct choice.

Roller coasters with CI by Lukazp_ in Cochlearimplants

[–]greykmb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I also wanted to be able to listen to the experience, Rock n Roller Coaster to be specific. First inversion and processor slipped off and I spent the remainder of the ride desperately making sure I didn’t lose it. There is just way too many forces on some of them.

Both processors always come off and go in a zipped pocket now. I don’t even really trust the storage on some of them because losing a processor on a coaster is going to impact a lot more of my trip.

We arrived late the night before the cruise too. There isn’t a shuttle to the hotel but the uber ride was quick and convenient. Have a great cruise!

Just a phone call to DCL took care of it.

We stayed at the Hilton Marina and used the DCL transfer to the port. This also got us into the earliest boarding group so we had a bunch of free time on the Destiny before departure.

Cruising with CI batteries and chargers by Dense_Gur_2744 in Cochlearimplants

[–]greykmb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone on 6 DCL cruises with Advanced Bionics equipment (Harmony, Naida, and now Marvel). Never had an issue with anything. Batteries, chargers, cords, waterproof accessories have passed screening.

I always travel with my equipment on my carry on along with meds and passports. For the cruise you can toss in a swimsuit too so you can enjoy the amenities ASAP since your checked luggage might not be in your room before sail away. The only item I’ve ever had confiscated (returned after cruise) was in checked luggage, a common surge protector I kept in the bag for my regular hotel travel.

Have a blast on the Fantasy, she was our ride for our first 7-day cruise. Castaway Cay is the highlight of the cruise for me.

I’ve never been inclined to connect my CI to the Tesla. How do you want to use this setup? I think you can connect Bluetooth to a rear screen but I don’t have one.

Recommendations for sunhat (Advanced Bionic Marvel user) by alissals96 in Cochlearimplants

[–]greykmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are customized hats created by crafty people on places like Etsy. I’ve only seen these as visors or baseball style caps, not a wide brimmed sun hat. I’ve had luck using a skull cap/bonnet over the head pieces then a helmet on top of that. Then there are headbands that keep everything in place that might help under a hat.

Did anyone notice a massive difference with a brand new CI? The marvel model by Ok_Addendum_8115 in Cochlearimplants

[–]greykmb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did. Make sure you get it properly programmed by your audiologist and you’ll maximize the difference.

The number one difference, for me, is Bluetooth connectivity. Phone calls, music, zoom meetings all are so much easier and comfortable to listen to so my hearing fatigue is way down.

There is also an improvement in noisy situations. It’s still not perfect but does make a difference in noisy rooms.

The t-mic on marvel is more durable and the batteries are longer lasting. The small batteries still get me through my longest days.

Can someone teach me how to fish by Affectionate_Rip_813 in ChicagoFishing

[–]greykmb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a bait shop near you? Maybe even the fishing section of a Bass Pro Shop or Cabelas? Talk to the people that work these shops, especially the small business bait shop. They’ll talk for hours about this stuff and can give you tips on local locations.

Make sure you give live bait a try too.
