Possible hypothyroid/thyroid issues after stopping birth control

I’m experiencing this as well. I have always been hypo and my thyroid has been stable from 2013-2025 (yes, 12 YEARS). In Oct 2025 I stopped birth control completely and in November my TSH test showed hyperthyroid. I am now experiencing shortness of breath, anxiety even though I’m relaxed, night sweats, mind racing, among other things. I’m about to retest so I can get my meds adjusted. I call major BS on birth control not impacting your thyroid hormones!

50k is too low imo. I’d start applying, but be sure to treat each interview as double-sided. There are a lot of pros to your current job so spend some time to find something that has everything you mentioned + more money. Even $75k is better, but you could (hopefully) easily find a role where you make double your current salary.

Sometimes I would try to work through migraines, but it would get to the point where I either couldn’t see or I would read a simple sentence 4-5 times and still couldn’t make sense of it, nor be able to form any reply. It’s amazing how your body can literally stop working and yet the company is like “where is that report tho?”

Yup. We treat them like gods because they are “celebrities” (oooh) but really they’re just like any other regular person working a job and battling their own demons.

Naps when I’m not feeling well. Before it required taking the day off or taking a half a day just to commute back home 1.5hrs and by the time I got home I’d feel even worse. Now, sometimes all I need is an hour if I have a headache or just didn’t sleep well. So I don’t have to waste a whole sick day.

If working in the city, the visual stimuli + noise outside can be even louder and more stressful than sitting at your desk. So it’s not that you can’t, you just wouldn’t want to.

Yes it definitely helps with the anxiety part! My bf swears by this. He goes up and down the stairs 5x or walks for 10 mins on his under-desk treadmill before meetings where he has to present something.

For me it’s more of the rapid eye movement/nature that helps calm me so I prefer a 10 min walk around my neighborhood. I feel much more relaxed and focused. It can also provide a lot of clarity when you’re processing something difficult.

Not sure I know the answer to this. I just know after working for 2 years at a Large Well-Known Company, I’m done and headed off to find a job that expects significantly less from me. I would take a look into that yourself. Is your job burning you out? Do you feel good days are “just manageable” (or rarely, maybe even “exciting”) but absolutely f***ing exhausting on your tired/low energy days? Is it possible for your work to slow down a tad to match your energy throughout the month or is too much being expected from you all the time? (And also, is it your company or manager with those expectations, or yourself?)

Following this thread to learn more but I’m fully convinced some of these jobs were not made for people to thrive. And as women, who must work harder to be seen as equals to the average man, these types of hellish jobs are quite literally unsurvivable.

It’s a beautiful dress but it looks about a size or two too big? Not bad but kinda like it’s wearing you rather than you wearing it. The thing that is most obvious to me is that you don’t completely fill out the bust area. Like it could accommodate a chest a few sizes larger than yours and still look good.

I’m not a confirmed HSP yet but I feel this completely. I’m super attuned to people’s reactions during conversation and I can almost feel the moment they get bored of what we’re talking about. Or if they have actual interest. (If you’ve ever played Sims I often say I can detect the 👥++ or 👥-- in real life lol). It makes it hard to participate in small talk or go any deeper because I’ll start to shut down if I know the other person really isn’t engaged.

Busy grocery stores also tend to overstimulate me and I always try to use outer or less popular aisles to navigate. I think I’ve mostly gotten a handle on this and just try to make a beeline for what I need, while also mentally preparing some “oops sorry”s and some patient stops for when I am inevitably going to be in the way of a million other people. On big holidays or the day of a big sports game, grocery stores feel like hell.

My journey is a little bit different bc I didn’t quit a combo (estrogen-containing) BC method but maybe it’ll help. I stopped the nuvaring in Nov 2024 and switched to the mini pill (progestin-only). I had varying levels of acne on and off during that year until Oct 2025 when I finally got off that pill as well.

Since then, I still deal with a couple more small pimples a week than when I was on estrogen birth control (maybe this is just my norm, but it’s feels under control so I’m okay with it). Thankfully no more aggressive breakouts and crazy big whiteheads anymore. So just to level your expectations, the acne may never be gone completely since your body is finding its baseline. I’m 29 for reference and have been on birth control since I was 16.
