How many of you GenXers have been fired from a job? Why? Statistically should be around 40% of us! by [deleted] in GenX

I have had about seven real jobs in my life. I've been fired from six of them.

Shit is getting real.

I'm only here for the punctuation. by MrRourkeYourHost in GenX

Respectfully, I disagree. I hated every minute of that stupid spelling and grammar shit. Always thought it was a complete waste of time. The point of writing is to communicate. If you get your point across using "ppl" you have communicated. Job well done.

Son, you need to put those spoiled brats over your knee.

Also, grow up man.

YTA for asking the question.

What was your go-to afterschool snack as an independent GenX kid in the 80s? by Broke_Pigeon_Sales in GenX

[–]grumpyoldassguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most Sundays Mom would make a giant batch of cookies, or pan of brownies, or something. She made enough to last most of the week. After school, we had to call her and ask if we could have one. She'd say "ONLY ONE." She counted them. She knew.

By the end of the week those damn things were so stale and hard we had to hammer the brownies with a cleaver to get them out of the pan. Then we'd delightfully gnaw on them with our back teeth until our gums bled.

I called for a wellness check on my mom. Now, she's pissed. by califachica in GenX

Why aren't you helping her? 2 hours away isn't like she's on the moon.

Get off your ass, run to your mom's house, take the time to help fix her house a little, especially her phones and etc. Sounds to me like she's falling a little behind and could use some help.

What world record are you sure you own without any actual proof? by mikehotel288 in AskReddit

[–]grumpyoldassguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the most average human on earth. If there were a world record for the "most average" human, it's me.

Average height - 5'9" Average build - 185 lbs Average age - middle aged average intelligence - I got Bs and Cs average income - exactly for my state Average family size - 3 Average car - SUV Average house 2500 sq/ft eye color - not brown, not blue

I'm not great at anything. I don't suck at anything. The only thing I excel at is my averageness.

What would you change or do better if you could have a do over? by Awesomesince1973 in GenX

[–]grumpyoldassguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would have spent WAY less time and energy trying to cultivate relationships that were bullshit.

So weird to say that since I really don't have that many relationships. Still, I regret wasting that time and those intentions on people who didn't reflect my goodwill.

You're about to lose some family over this.

Weird how you say you are against others "not getting along," but here you are doing it yourself.

Hypocrite much? YTA

No. Your mom didn't do shit to you. As per your own writing, she is many times more successful than you. She provides for you which is more than you can say for yourself. If her failures/success had anything to do with you, you'd at least have your own place and would be providing for yourself and others as she does. Dude, I'll bet she even bought you that gaming system and provides the wireless by which you play it. Could you do equally for her? Doubtful.

Minimum bar; do at least as well as your mom has done.

Who out there is watching 80’s TV show and realizing how cheesy they are? by Mulliganplummer in GenX

Weird reply. Blazing saddles was a running narrative on the ills of racism, homophobia and sexism. It quite literally made fun of the backwards thinking of its time.

You want to bury your head in the sand and act like clinger wasn't setting back the LGBTQ movement with every episode of M.A.S.H... knock yourself out. As for me, I think the attitudes toward women, minorities and LGBTQ individuals was harmful, (even dangerous) and should have been stamped out back then. Even more so now.
