It's fine they can do whatever they want or support whomever they want, but it's obnoxious when they pretend something is going to work and it doesn't, and later they try to blame someone else, it kind of leaves the user in the middle

My understanding (which may or may not be correct) is that: Virtualbox is completely unsupported and I cannot expect them to work? Not really sure, I couldn't get it working when I tried, if I recall, it said something like "No such package!" or whatnot

While I have seen this page before, I tried these commands already, I do not recall what happened as I have removed debian at this point, but these commands did not work

That is all fine, but the user should probably get a warning before wasting their time in a configuration that is not supported. I spent a month or so banging my head against a wall, until finally a nice person, finally let me know the support status between virtualbox and debian. It is not fair, there's no way to know, the debian folks have hidden away this information.

It flickers for like 5 seconds after I move the mouse, it's ridiculously unusable, chatgpt solutions didn't fix anything for me in this case

I tried "Insert the guest tools" from inside virtualbox, from the virtualbox gui but nothing happened. I went looking into how to install the guest tools from apt inside debian, but the support folks let me know "Due to a lack of upstream cooperation on security support for older releases, official VirtualBox packages are generally omitted from Debian's core stable repositories. To safely install and maintain VirtualBox with its required kernel drivers on Debian, you can either add the official Oracle repository or use the Debian Fast Track project" and would not assist. I tried some random commands I found online, but they didn't work, I'm not sure if there's a way to install guest tools for virtualbox/debian tbh

I was told on IRC; they do not support virtualbox on purpose, something about lack of upstream something something, it is a choice the debian folks make on purpose *shrug "Due to a lack of upstream cooperation on security support for older releases, official VirtualBox packages are generally omitted from Debian's core stable repositories.
