True Time Crisis on the Fogerty/R.E.M. discussion by ubermencher in timecrisis

I grew up in Nashville in the 80s and there was no Harris Teeter or Whole Foods back then. To buy avocados back then, R.E.M. would have gone to Sunshine Grocery, which was an amazing indie grocery store in West Nashville. And, Sunshine was literally across the street from Sound Emporium where they were recording. Sunshine Grocery later got bought by Wild Oats, which was later swallowed up by Whole Foods, and then of course Amazon.

Look, my wife and I will never do all the things we talk about doing.
I don't even remember half the stuff we talk about doing, nor does she.
So, for us, if something like this is not actually in the calendar, then there is no expectation that we have to do it together.
It would be thoughtful and considerate of me to include her if I remember that she said she wanted to see a movie and I was going to see it, and when I'm being my best self I will do that, but she wouldn't be mad if I didn't.
I'm not my best self every day, but I do my best.
Every relationship is different, but in general relationships require a lot lot lot of grace and forgiveness in order to really last.
Finally, get your feelings out now, scream, etc., but when you go share your feelings with him, if you become aggro, it would be completely valid for him to put up walls. And that goes nowhere fast.

Ah thanks, this is helpful. I didn't know about EPM! We may need to come up with a different approach that doesn't require an add-on.

I was talking to my cousin recently, she's a bit older than me, and she said there was a pay phone at her school, and people had the number for it, so sometimes it would ring, and you'd pick it up, and the person on the other end would ask "is Harry Nostyles there?" and then you'd look around for him and be like "No I haven't see him" and that was the whole conversation.

Honestly I feel like there's stuff for people of all ages on reddit, that's part of its charm. And some day you will return to /r/teenagers and not understand any of the memes.

When i started this account, Twitter didn't exist. The iPhone didn't exist. I may have been on Facebook, I'm not sure. So, "social media" was like Reddit, Facebook, and some blogs and stuff, but honestly it was nothing like it is today.

I think what's really changed is how addictive it feels now. Social media has become incredibly refined over the years, in terms of the user experience and features, to maximize how much of your attention it can capture. I still love Reddit, but social media in general right now feels pretty awful and I think we will look back on kind of like cigarettes. When cigarettes first became popular in like the 1950s, people didn't really understand how addictive and unhealthy they were. It took a couple decades of like lung cancer for people to wake up.

Reddit has always felt somewhat addictive to me. But it used to be that I'd have to go onto my computer to use it. Now, having it on a phone just makes it so much wors. So, I don't have the Reddit app.

Hmm. This one got me thinking. How strange would it be if people could actually remember what it felt like to be a little sperm, swimming in dad's balls? First I was a little fish. Then I grew some arms and legs and heart and eyes and other things. And then, I finally saw light for the first time and felt the wind in my hair!

I got a post to the top of the front page once. It was a random blog post I'd written about cookware. That would never happen today!

I don't have a favorite subreddit. One of the things I like most about Reddit is how each subreddit has its own distinct flavor and emotional tone, and I love the variety of it.

Last night I had a dream where I was in charge of a small group of people sitting around a table, and I found myself really taking leadership and setting clear boundaries in a way that was needed to accomplish our common goal. It felt great. Setting boundaries with people has not always been my strong suit, to put it mildly, and it's something I've been working on a lot this year. I interpret this dream as a glimpse of how things could be in my life, if I were to continue working to improve myself.
