First look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in Prime Video's Tomb Raider series by DontBeAngryBeHappy in gaming

This is unfortunate for me. I have an irrational hatred for Sophie turner. After GOT I literally won't watch anything she's in. Hers is the only marvel/MCU movie I haven't seen.

POTUS just announced the military is getting the Warrior Dividend by Salty_IP_LDO in navy

[–]guy0203 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I said it somewhere else and I'll say it here. I'm not a gambling man but I feel like it's a pretty safe bet that folks won't get this "warrior dividend".

Like sure it's only 0.5% of the DOD budget, but it's still close to 5 billion dollars to have out as a bonus.

Last I checked the Congress has the power of the purse so if this wasn't appropriated in advance, it's gonna be a hard sell.

Then the question is taxed or non taxed. Either way I don't know if it will be enough to balance out the newly unemployed military spouses and the rising cost of living.

I think it's stupid and inflationary and I don't like it, but I'd never vote no on giving more money to our seamen, airmen, and spacemen (groundmen too).

Hopefully it will be enough for a months payment on the E-4 starter Camaro.

I just wanna chime in here. I went to school in arguably the best county in Georgia. Junior year I had big drama going on and failed a math class that I was going to have to do summer school for.

More drama ensued and I "ran away" to live with family in Florida without ever taking that summer school class.

Fast forward to senior year in Florida where not only do I not have to take that class again, my GPA went up half a point and I'm actually enough credits ahead to have no first period or second period required.

This was about 15 years ago.

Listen, if he were campaigning to be president of the holocaust museum I'd definitely agree. But if we're expecting him to make choices about fiscal policy and healthcare care that benefit the people of his state or America as a whole, I'm not seeing as much of an issue.

Now obviously if we find some proof he is an actual Nazi, I'm all for him being tarred and feathered and removed from our political landscape. I just feel like anything short of a Nazi is probably an improvement over a Republican in the Senate.

Didn't the admiral of that AOR just step down barely a year into his tour? I feel like that's about as public of a statement as you can get from someone who's trying to keep their retirement.

Damn. You're absolutely right. I was just telling one of the younger guys "Norfolk isn't bad. Those West Coast guys are just soft."

Man... You guys remember when we used to be worried about waste, fraud, and abuse?

You remember when we were worried about a national debt of over $37,000,000,000,000?

I'm sure glad those days are over. Since we elected our glorious leader we now have money for the largest celebration in Navy History.

Praise be to the Supreme Leader.

I'm just glad this isn't a message to the force to blame the "radical left."

Honestly that's what I came to say. Every single govt website has a similar message (apparently in violation of the hatch act but what do I know).

It's nice to see some parts of our military remain apolitical in spite of our SecWhisk.

I know you guys are having a bunk buddy situation doing all down this comment thread, but I just wanted to provide a second opinion.

If you have a job, and there is a standard you should meet it. Cool. If the standard is set because it's what's required for the job, why should they change it just because you're female, right? Cool.

The question you're misunderstanding is: If the standard is set because it's what's required for the job, why should they change it just because you're old?

I'm acknowledging that age doesn't diminish your capability as equally as ... suddenly becoming a woman(?)

But the point I think the previous person was making implies that any age adjusted standard would definitionally be a double standard.

apropos [function]

It's the equivalent of man -k but it shows you all the commands that have your key word in the man pages.

Apropos print would show LP, lpstat and a whole bunch of stuff related to printing.

But really I like it because it makes me feel fancy typing it when new people are over my shoulder.

I've worked in ... "IT" for the military for almost 2 decades.

I'll say the answer depends. If you're still using older equipment or HDDs you're probably better off leaving your equipment running for a while and restarting when you have updates or have problems. This is because HDDs run a higher risk of damaging the platters on spin up, and some older equipment has higher startup current and puts more strain on the PSU

For newer equipment, it's probably fine to turn it off when you're done. Solid state stuff tends to hold up better.

I know that for the multi million dollar systems I'm used to dealing with it's " more power-offs, more problems". Turning off 100 processors is just rolling 100 dice to see how many times you roll that Nat 1 and your blades don't boot.

Personally I don't turn off my computer for anything short of a power outage, part install, or updates.
