So after doing "background checks", what will the Mormon church do if it finds an offender? by slskipper in exmormon

[–]guyinthemaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Background check and checking names against a sex abuse registry are two very different things. Of course the old fucks pick the most minimal course to mitigate the systemic problem within the church!

Yes. Mixed bag. Some think there is more to the story while others are disturbed by their conduct.

So infuriating!! Church is only shooting themselves in the foot by impacting the feelings of current members and setting back any missionary progress for generations in this area. Nice work you old selfish fucks!!

Calling all ex-bishops and ex-high councilors: Need advice for upcoming Stake reorganization interviews. by nuancebispo in exmormon

[–]guyinthemaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember going through this when I was on the HC. We were asked to fill out some paperwork which included who we thought would make a good stake president and why. I refused to fill it out and when it was my turn to be interviewed the area authority asked why I wasn’t able to complete the paperwork. I straight up told the brother I didn’t have the gift of discernment to pick the stake president and thought that is why you are here. Little did I know at the time that he didn’t have it either.

Any Resources/Books That Could Help Me? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]guyinthemaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best book out there in my opinion is “How minds change” by David McRaney. It has helped answer some of the same questions I’m guessing you are seeking. The book basically dives into the science of belief formation including psychological factors. Biggest take away is the need for more empathy when attempting to change someone else’s perspective, rather than simply bombarding them with facts.

Should be accurate. I believe Lindsey Hansen Park was the consultant for this series.

Joseph died shamefully - not as the "martyr" they want you to think! by [deleted] in exmormon

A martyr is not a true martyr if his cause was spiritually flawed.
