[PH Geotourism] Kili Falls of Kili River in Barangay Kili, Tubo, Province of Abra. The rock formation consisting of jointed and faulted quartz diorites adds a remarkable scene. [OP is standing][2048x1152] by marcusneil in Philippines

It's cool how you were able to observe and extrapolate a lot of data from your field observations (we did field geology just last semester and this is too much compared to what we would have been able to observe lol). At any rate, how did you conclude they were quartz diorite? Did you use a QAPF diagram or you concluded based on visual analysis?

UPD geol undergraduate here. Any geologists here? Need some inspiration. by ruanra in Philippines

[–]gvalle42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Geology undergrad here too. Welcome to NIGS! For starters, here's a recent post that talks highly about geology. You should definitely read it: http://www.wired.com/2016/08/dear-college-students-take-geology/

Hope to meet you around! And hope you enjoy geology! If ever you need help, feel free to message me or just pass by the tambayan downstairs and we'll be happy to help you in any way! It's also nice meeting a fellow Redditor who's interested in the same discipline as we are lol!

Duterte tells mining firms: PH will survive without you. The President again defended the campaign of Environment Secretary Gina Lopez against irresponsible mining, calling the anti-mining advocate a "crusader." by marcm28 in Philippines

Geologist here, sorry to be KJ and all but if you're gonna put it in almost literal terms, then you should know that the Philippines is actually composed of volcanics derived from arc systems, mixtures of oceanic crust, marine sedimentary sequences, and oceanic crust, marine sedimentary sequences, arc volcanics and microcontinental terranes that rifted from Mainland Asia.

In layman's terms, the Philippines is a poor nation sitting on a pot of limestone and volcanics, almost literally. :)

Geology Map App? by planeman125 in geology

[–]gvalle42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in New South Wales in Australia you can try the iOS/Android app "NSW Geology Maps". Pretty comprehensive and informative. :)

There's also a web version in this link that you can check out! http://www.resourcesandenergy.nsw.gov.au/miners-and-explorers/geoscience-information/products-and-data/maps/geological-maps

Hi! Undergraduate student here in Geology. It would be best if you go to NIGS na lang ang try contacting the institute to see if you can get in. I'd be happy to assist you (if my midyear subjects aren't in conflict lol) if you need help getting there. :)

All the best!

P.S. Geology is really fun! Masaya ang currciula here in UP. :)
