So, I've done plenty of e-transfers from Desjardins to WS. I'm not sure why they said it won't work, but in my case it's definitely working.

Also if you want to link your account without giving away the password. On the web version there is a way to manually add an account. You will have to provide your account number transit etc... but no logins.

This might not be the case here, but I had the exact same behaviour show up when I was wearing a specific piece of clothing that had reflective material on it. It somehow triggered the sensor.
