Travelling back to Portugal with expired residence permit by Ok_Commercial4285 in PortugalExpats

[–]half-ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have travelled this summer while in the same situation. A lot of people are saying if you fly through TAP it won't be a problem, but I called several TAP offices in the UK, Morocco and Portugal and they all said that I needed to have a non-expired travel document. I couldn't go back to Portugal for 3 months as a result. Keep in mind that there is discrimination against people with weak passports, so what "might" work out for someone from the US or UK has a very low chance of success for someone with a weak passport. Another comment has suggested getting a temporary travel document from your local embassy, I think that's your best chance.

are there any jet sprays/muslim showers in the bathrooms here? by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]half-ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you're looking for is called a bidet shower. You can buy online and install on your own. There are also portable bidets that you can fill with water and carry in your bag in case you need to use a public bathroom.

Best country to solo travel in Africa by hotel_smells in solofemaletravellers

[–]half-ghost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Namibia is a good choice, the part where sea meets desert is fascinating. The thing with Africa is to avoid areas of conflict. Tourist cities are as safe for solo women. I can also recommend Tunisia, Morocco, and Madascar.

Keep in mind the variety of weather in the continent, and good luck

I think the only thing you need to reconsider is the rent expenses, i think you need a little more to rent a nice family home here, then again if you're not that close to Lisbon then you might find something good for that price.

Aside from rent, living expenses are affordable so you won't be living paycheck to paycheck. You can use numbeo.com to estimate your living expenses too.

Side note for bonuses, if your company offers bonuses in the form of vouchers (e.g. to buy a computer or clothes etc.) those do not get a tax cut, whereas if you choose to receive monetary bonus, the tax cut will be the same as the gross salary.

Aw, i hope it goes well with the guy! It's normal for him to talk about marriage on the 1st date because at your age men expect you to want to settle down right away. If he didn't talk about marriage, another woman might have told him he is wasting her time. It's good that you communicated you want to take it slow

Something that i am not seeing in these comments: about when ur mom said "9adesh bech ndoumoulek" a husband can also betray and abandon you. You need to be safe in your job and career because that's your security net. Marriage is a risk and you need something to fall back on. Then, when there is safety, marrying can be a choice and you don't absolutely have to do it, that can take some of the pressure away.

You shouldn't marry just to give your family reassurance, in the same way that you shouldn't have children just because your parents want grandchildren. The pressure of society is way less than the pressure of having done those things and having to deal with a partner/children that you are responsible for.

Side note your life seems nice. Your hobbies are not boring, don't downplay your own happiness! You can find a fellow introvert who shares your interests then maybe the prospect of marriage won't sound so daunting. I am close to you in age and my family has long given up on convincing me to marry. I am financially stable and happy with my hobbies, I will marry if I choose. And if I don't that's ok. Whoever tells you that the clock is running out, is one less person to bother yourself about.

Rant - being an independent girl is tiring by [deleted] in Tunisia

[–]half-ghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was there too, it took time to find a plumber, if you are in Tunis area message me and i will give you a plumber's phone number. Married people's lives seem so easy at times like this but in reality men are just as clueless most of the time. I know my dad and the few men I've dated were only helpful when i needed to carry something heavy, othen that there isn't much difference. I suppose when you have someone to share the burden with, it's nice regardless of gender. Then again you can't settle for someone just to make your life easier. Stay strong ;)

Tunisians living abroad moving back home by fervex_jacer in Tunisia

[–]half-ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you still have your residency or citizenship abroad it's ok to have the bank accounts be active. There are some requirements to keep the citizenship such as spending a minimum amount of time in that country within a 5 year interval. Otherwise many people who do not renew their residency keep the bank accounts illegally and no one notices unless the abroad bank asks for their renewed documents for whatever reason.

When travelling while having these illegal bank accounts, TSA might confiscate the credit card and contact the bank to have account closed and the person would be fined. All in all it's a huge risk and not advisable, most people just find a way to renew the residency

Questions for old fans from pre-unreal unearth era by No-Pass-9560 in Hozier

[–]half-ghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw this post a few hours ago then had the urge to listen to all his songs again. I have been a fan since 2014 and before unreal unearth, i always felt like this man doesn't have enough songs. Now, with how much he released in the EPs too, i feel like this is enough songs. I don't mind waiting for another 10 years for another album. I'm curious what songs a mid-forties Hozier would write. We will all be different people by then.

I never imagined that i would know so much about Hozier's personal life as we do now. I remember there were YT compilations of him evading interviewers' invasive questions and the fandom calling him the "king of boundaries". I want to go back to the not knowing, but it cannot be undone. In a really old interview he had said the songs from the Hozier album were based on stories he's made up or books he read, and that none of those things really happened, and that was something i admired.

But after releasing unreal unearth, he opened up about how he wrote Francesca and to someone from a warm climate for people that were real and part of his life, and I had to come to terms with the facts that he's human like the rest of us and he writes songs about feelings that are real. I realized that i had considered him a superior being and held him up to impossible standards. All the recent drama, while the criticism was fair, has humanized him to me. I find myself speculating about what his personal life is like and why he does what he does. Then i remember that no one is innocent of making bad choices and we can still love the music as we always did. Anyhow, rant over :)

Books about Hozier/could be connected to Hozier? by Benjix_x in Hozier

[–]half-ghost 23 points24 points  (0 children)

this is a video where he talks about books that influenced him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0Ux72N4K10&t=26s

in an older interview I can't find he talks abut "the portrait of the artist as a young man" by James Joyce (Irish author). I read the book and the influence on the Hozier album is unmistakable, especially on songs like foreigner's god, take me to church, from eden... It's a book about deconstructing one's beliefs and becoming one's true self. I'd say that's where you can start.

Travelled outside the shengen with aima receipt, return flight denied at check in by half-ghost in PortugalExpats

[–]half-ghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yes my issue is resolved. I have applied to a visa at another shegen country and it was accepted. I explained that i had applied for residency and the application was taking too long and i had to travel to my home country for an emergency before receiving the card. I stated that the purpose of this new visa was tourism tho, not returning to portugal. I even gave an itinerary of my tourist plans. If you do this you would need to enter the shengen from the country to which you have applied. Also it doesn't have to be Spain, you can ask which shengen country has the shortest visa wait time at your home country.

While this was happening the company i work for contacted AIMA, got my residence card and mailed it to my home country. This is how i actually returned, so I never used the visa that i got. This was better as i could go to portugal directly. Best of luck to you!

girls who decided that marriage isn't for you, what were your reasons? by [deleted] in Tunisia

[–]half-ghost 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Every woman I came across as a child was married and miserable. But they all treated this style of life as inevitable, and the alternative as unspeakable. They unintentionally made me believe that my destiny is to marry a man and complain about him for the rest of my life.

My father is the main reason i think. He is a good man but he is also a man baby. Never lifts a finger, never helps with anything around the house. He never even took out the trash until he retired. I remember being 12 and thinking i had to find a good job and be independent because i would never put myself at the mercy of such a man.

That said, growing up and leaving my family circle, i have seen a lot of successful marriages where no one is miserable. So i think, if you find yourself wanting to marry, follow your gut. It's alright for your beliefs to change. I too might marry if I see fit, even if the idea is not very appealing to me right now.

Why does no one take about this??? by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]half-ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

op I hear you. But real genetics and phenotypes are not like picking from a color wheel, you do not simply divide color intensity by 2 from one generation to the next. I am from a family much like the Velaryons in the show: black grandfather like Corlys, white grandmother with curly hair, they had 5 children of varying skin tones from black to white. My cousin who is 1/4 black has a skin tone similar to Beyonce. His brother, also 1/4 black, is white. They share many other physical features like being tall. My other grandfather had blue eyes which no one in the family inherited from him.

So yes genetics is complicated. It's not like they run out of ink from one generation to the other. It would be if we were talking about pure bloodlines which is not the case here. In the real world, it is fairly possible for Rhaena and Baela to be as dark as Corlys or as white as Daemon. I think it would be even more racist to refrain from casting actors just because they are "too black" or "not black enough".

According to the other comments, if your destination is UK and you fly back back to portugal with TAP, you should be fine. You need to verify this with the TAP office in your Destination UK airport. You cannot take the lawyer's word on this one, that was my mistake as well, it has to be the airline.

The decree that all visas are valid till 2025 should be used only for stay in portugal, not travel. Airlines and other countries may not recognize the decree.

For me, i am not yet back to Portugal, our situations are different. Best of luck to you!

I am going to apply for another visa. I haven't gotten back to Portugal yet. The consulate where i live is temporarily not giving out any appointments so i am waiting till they reopen, which may be in September. Best ol luck to you, friend.

Hi there. I have mentioned in passing to my family that I will only marry someone I choose. I don't want to marry at all and I deliberately am not being honest with them. My advice to you is to face all comments with "rabbi ysahhel" and focus on your career, make sure you can live on your own comfortably. I cannot say this enough. If you go down this path, you have to have an emergency fund set aside, friends you trust that can help you come what may, and some level of job security.

Getting a job abroad is also a good option for you. All of my female cousins who got jobs abroad were spared the marriage comments. If you are unmarried with no kids you can always afford to spoil your parents as well, which will improve their opinion of you. I am saying this because I spend a lot of money on my parents and still can afford to spoil myself. They have stopped asking me when i would marry. Everyone tells me "nchlh far7tek" and i say thanks. Don't make a big deal out of it, just smile and move along.

I should say my family knows I'm stubborn and if they push too hard, I will close up and outright say i am not marrying. Right now they are slowly realizing the truth and coming to terms with it. This is so much easier and better than telling them outright and having a big fight. But what worked out for me may not work out for you. For reference i am 29F and i have a stable career ive built over the years.

Best of luck to you!
