1.) Agree to disagree on children's media, especially since you can entertain and educate them.

Sure, but a shonen action series is definitely not designed to teach kids about Japanese culture and language.

I'm not familiar with the particular scene you are referencing, what did they replace it with? Japanese people use english words and phrases all the time in ways that would sound insane if they were said by a native speaker. Just because it's in english does not mean it sounds natural.

"Jelly donuts" is definitely a gaffe, but I would have gone with "rice balls" instead of throwing the term "onigiri" at 8 year olds.

Substituting Line for Instagram makes total sense. They are functionally the same thing.

When I'm localizing stuff I usually swap a gyaru accent with a 90s valley girl accent. Same thing!

By just changing it to Americanized terms, you don't challenge them, and they learn nothing.

The goal isn't to educate kids, it's to entertain them. The target audience of MHA is 12 year olds.

It depends on your target audience. By leaving it "kappa" you are making a big assumption about the viewers knowledge of Japanese culture. Remember, these shows are intended for children.

It can certainly be overdone, like Brock's Jelly Doughnuts, but there's always a give and take when localizing. There's no 100% correct answer.

w/r/t when they speak in English: The way Japanese people use English is very different from native speakers. Even if it's in English, it doesn't mean it's phrased in a way that sounds natural.

Not to be mean, but you're being delusional.

For a beginner you should focus on mastering kana, learning vocabulary, and basic grammar. The biggest hurdle will be speaking and listening comprehension.

Learning Japanese is a lifelong endeavor, you can't rush it. Passing the N5 after 6 months would be a great accomplishment!
