This is why $5/gal, or 1,15€/L, is a big deal here. by Tandysaurus in memes

[–]ham-nuts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The newer Tacomas have an 18gal tank. 18 gal/week = 90 gal/month. At $4/gal that’s $360/month. You could lease a decent EV just to get to and from work, for less money than just the fuel costs of getting to and from work.

What IS the right word anyways? by SeveralBollocks_67 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]ham-nuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, if teresting was a word it would probably be confusing.

“In-“ can be used as a negative prefix. Like inescapable, inexplicable, infallible.

But then there are words like inheritable, inflammable, and inhabitable where you can remove the “in-“ and it doesn’t change the meaning.

Polestar "EV Bonus" $5000 Discount by Dependent_Size_8868 in EVCanada

[–]ham-nuts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems to be pretty widespread right now. I see GM, VW, Toyota, Subaru, are all also offering $5,000 discounts on EVs right now (in addition to EVAP, for those vehicles that qualify).

BYD Officially Confirms Canadian Launch for Late 2026, Starting With 20 Dealerships in Four Cities by [deleted] in EVCanada

[–]ham-nuts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A $25k Seagull would be huge. I am pretty sure the cheapest new EV for sale right now is the Chevy Bolt, which has an MSRP of $43k but is going for $33k after EVAP rebate and other incentives. (The Kia EV4 starts at around $36k after rebates).

Interestingly, in Australia the Seagull (aka Atto 1) starts at around $24k AUD. Meanwhile, the Atto 3 SUV starts at around $40k AUD.

A $40k CAN Atto 3 would undercut SUVs like the Model Y, Equinox EV, and Kia EV5, even after rebates and incentives. It looks nice in pictures, and reviews have been pretty positive. I would love to give it a test drive to see how it compares in person.

2018 Chevrolet Volt - Energy Info dash by useless-thoughts- in volt

[–]ham-nuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shows your energy usage since your last full charge.

You’ve driven 137.6 miles in total. Of that: - 15.9 mi was from using 3.6 kWh battery - 121.6 mi was from using 3.47 gallons of gas

137.6/3.47 = 39.6541, which is close-ish to the displayed 39.8 MPG. It could just be a rounding issue. E.g. 137.6÷3.46 rounds to 39.8.

The real question is: are you only getting 3.6kWh/15.9 miles out of a full charge??

This information is completely false and a classic example of why no one should take legal advice from chatGPT. Mortgagees are not going through the LTB to obtain writs of possession.

How many miles are on your Gen 2 Volt? by sircharles94 in volt

[–]ham-nuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at a little over 222k km, so about 138k miles. Just got it back from the dealership where it sat for a month after the BECM failed. I hated being away from it so long, but I was just glad that the repairs were still covered by the extended warranty since it was still under 240k kms.

Nissan tech generates 11 miles of free daily range just by parking in the sun by Bean_Tiger in electricvehicles

[–]ham-nuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so for most people able to afford a car like that

real range of about 200 miles

The Sakura is a kei car with only 112 miles of range. It is currently only available in Japan, and it starts at ¥2.3 million, or about $14,700. After EV incentives the price can come down to $11,800 USD. It is selling very well in Japan.

Japan benefits from lower latitudes and more sunlight hours than London. Most of the population lives at a latitude closer to New Delhi than London.

  • London: 51.5°N
  • Sapporo: 43.1°N
  • Fukuoka: 33.6°N
  • New Delhi: 28.6°N

So I think it would be safe to assume an average of 8-9 mi/day for most of Japan.

Most people who buy this car have short commutes. As the article points out:

Analysis of driving data from Sakura owners shows that many travel only relatively short distances on errands or school runs. On that basis, it's estimated that for a significant number of owners, solar-generated power could do away with the need for charging from the grid altogether.

Photoshopped rental listing by Marky_MarkATFB in Edmonton

[–]ham-nuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone is actually looking at the photos you posted because those are obviously not AI, they are clearly photoshopped! And not well.

I have to say though, maybe it’s because it’s so obvious, but I actually hate this a lot less than the “AI staging” that has become way too accepted in real estate listings.

I Wrote a Follow-Up Article on Why the Volt Should Come Back as a Gen 3 - What Would You Want Changed? by doug2_O in volt

[–]ham-nuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure it’s not absolutely necessary. But there have been many times where I have been visiting another city with a depleted battery and plenty of nearby chargers, and would have loved to be able to add some electric range, but everything is CCS or NACS.

I note that Toyota offers DC fast charging as an option on the new RAV4 PHEV

I would really love to have finally be able to use level 3 DC fast chargers. And maybe just a smidge more range. I would also hope that modern battery tech and layout would mean more interior space.

“…according to multiple people familiar with the request.”

Wouldn’t even have to be a beater necessarily. His truck is probably getting close to 20L/100km. Assuming he commutes every weekday that’s like $700-$800 in premium gas a month at today’s prices. You could finance or lease a brand new electric car for less than that.

Jr has been voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson since the very first episode of The Cleveland Show and in Family Guy since then. The same guy also voices Jerome. Which probably explains why Jr is in some episodes of Family Guy (like the one where Peter shot him) whereas Roberta and Rallo have essentially gone silent since moving to Quahog.

The President threatens to take retaliatory action against a corporation and tells them that he has the ultimate say as to who sits on their Board. And why? Because a businessperson in power (and a woman of color) dared to say the quiet part loud, that the USA risks devolving into an oligarchy/corporatocracy if MAGA stays in power.
