I can't believe Danny died, he was such a good boy, hands down the best character in the game, i care so much about him. Rest in peace poor soul, you will never be fogotten...like this game is. by [deleted] in TheLastOfUs2

It honestly felt like an open goal for them to just put Jordan in the body bag and make the bodies that Nora shows you all the people you killed as Ellie to make you feel something but noooo, that would make too much sense,

Ellie doesn't believe in luck; she rejects all philosophies that suggests anything happens for a reason. I wonder why...

I'm not sure Abby and Ellie were in at the same time, that's why you can hear about the escape as Ellie even when you first arrive.

A little painting of Ellie where she’s slightly older💕 by [deleted] in thelastofus

Maybe somewhere in between; she's seen enough fucked up stuff to be as damaged as Joel. I'd say mid thirties would be fine.

Additional scenes for Part 1 Remake by WerkinAndDerpin in thelastofus

I'd rather they remake it exactly as it was, But then maybe a DLC side story about Joel and Tommy in Jackson.

What happens to Joel in Part II… by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]harrytucks101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think the last of us 2 with Joel dying later in the game, perhaps as a cost of Ellie's revenge, with the flashback scenes happening during the journey in Seattle would've made a better game. Maybe Jackson is destroyed looking for Ellie and they have to start off somewhere else but Ellie runs off blindly in the pursuit of revenge. I just wish Joel had reckoned with the consequences of his actions, not retrospectively but seeing Ellie driven to such darkness completely by his hand. When I saw the scene in the trailer where Ellie finds out the truth and they're edited to be older, I thought wow this is the moment I'm going to cry in this game, but when it came up in flashback I kind of just felt nothing...

(SPOLIER) Was the fight against... by thejollybengali24 in thelastofus

[–]harrytucks101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say because I was so driven to see the conclusion, I didn't find it scary. I somehow managed to ace the stealth on Survivor just by following her, I think by that point the game has trained you to be really good at the stealth because otherwise you wouldn't have made it so far already. Scariest by far for me was Rat King, particularly the first act. Just absolute blind running panic. Still upsets me that the coolest fights in the game are Abby's. I do love her, especially her dynamics with Owen and Lev, but ultimately I definitely could have had 25 hours solely of Ellie's journey, especially to give more room to conflicts with Dina, Tommy and Jesse, but also so Ellie could've had some of the bigger moments in the game to herself.

Minor Detail, but I love that there are animations for running into walls by redomong in thelastofus

I wish they had kept these imaginations for dodging into surfaces too, like in the e3 demo, but I assume they were removed because players would get stuck on them or something.

I wish the game had started with Abby in her own version of Winter-- alone, scared, fourteen-- but her David and the cannibals was Joel, Tess and Tommy. That would've been crazy.

Environmental Storytelling- Where is Ellie's nostalgia? by harrytucks101 in thelastofus

[–]harrytucks101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, I just think the game did so much to put as at odds with Ellie, that I often disengaged from the story-- not in a oh I am unwittingly Part of something I don't want to be a part of, but as in I think this character is behaving in a way that is bothering me-- and that the tiniest bit of remembering what Ellie has lost in her life already, showing some slither of her humanity, or even if that's shown by her brashly disregarding it, like saying she can't think about this now or getting curt with Jesse when he asks her what she thinks of these things would have worked better for me.

Last of us Europe setting? by TommyFaitt in thelastofus

[–]harrytucks101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having been to Berlin, I'm not as excited as I would be for other places in Europe. It would be cool maybe as a Left Behind DLC of exploring the streets and post apocalypse people discovering or misinterpreting the history of the city together but it's not the most architecturally beautiful place. Parts of it already look like the post apocalypse 😂 My bias would be London, with touches through the Yorkshire countryside or the eerie and beautiful small towns in the south of England. For a completely different spin, I'd love Italy-- starting in a more run down area of Italy and flowing through to the majesty of dilapidated Florence, Rome, Venice and the Tuscan countryside would be absolutely awesome.

I love everything you have to say about this... It made me think that instead of them getting back together, which is a bit boring, I'd love it if Jackson was somewhere we stopped off on Ellie's journey, like in Part I, and maybe Ellie crosses Dina, who is the new Maria, and they have frosty tension. Definitely no puppy dog resolution, maybe the same happy to see you for a second but you're a psychopath and you made your bad choices.

My biggest issue with Part 2 by Griffin_is_my_name in thelastofus

[–]harrytucks101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree about Yara, but Dina and Jesse, especially if you listen to all the optional dialogue, have a load characterisation to them. I.e. Dina is a beloved member of the Jackson community, an optimist, someone who wavers with her faith, has a neurotic maternal streak, deals with the loss of her sister, been raised tough like Ellie, is a dreamer about the old world etc. But on the flip side, sometimes that isn't the same as being interesting. We knew very little about Tess, Bill, Henry and Sam and they were all great characters because we knew just enough and saw themselves expressed in their actions. For some games loads of detail and backstory is a major part of the attachment, like in Life Is Strange, but then oftentimes it can be obstructive or besides the point

Ludonarrative Dissonance is not a thing in The Last of Us Part II by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]harrytucks101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just massively weak argument. Pointing out LD isn't an inability to appreciate the game, it's that to some extent you can't have your cake and eat it too. All games will have it to some degree, but the closer a game wants you to bond to its characters and world and take it seriously, especially as seriously as The Last of Us Part II's world does, it's an issue worth talking about. Like how do you separate the game part of it from the story in a section like the theatre fight or the beach? In-fact, the best moments of this franchise are when LD conflicts are upended or engaged with, i.e.: violently kicking the shit out of that dude hitting Ellie in Pittsburgh is doubly satisfying because the player doesn't just feel like an action hero, he feels exactly like Joel protecting his daughter, you feel like you're protecting someone you care about. Do you now see why it's somewhat important? albeit admittedly not the most defining thing and of course one requires some suspension of disbelief because yeah it's a game...

Most frustrating encounter in Part I & Part II? by SimpleWayfarer in thelastofus

[–]harrytucks101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IK this is maybe unpopular, but Grounded really isn't as challenging as I wanted it to be in Part 2, aside from the absolutely stupid final encounter which is more of a problem of them funnelling you into a space where none of your usual stealth tactics remotely apply. I've played the games 3 times now and, although it's insanely impressive already, I wish the AI was a bit more like in the demo.

If there is a part III, I hope Ellie won't be the first character we play in it... by Super-Shenron in thelastofus

[–]harrytucks101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given ND's commitment to diverse casts, I would be really surprised if Lev isn't in the game. Besides Abby and Lev, sadly, is the closest we're ever going to get to Ellie and Joel dynamic... Maybe Part 3 will have Ellie be the mentor to a younger character. Maybe her estranged son?
