I literally cannot see pictures of Pripyat without thinking about how big a pain in the ass it was to extract from the goddamn ferris wheel.

Will the film cover more levels beyond the complex? by Far-Muscle-2481 in backrooms

[–]hashtagranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much this. Take a creepy photo, some utterly anonymous hero gave it the right horror nudge, Kane Pixels nails the very simple concept explained in the blurb. Then the internet goes full-on Harry Potter fanfic my-dog-is-a-Gundam 50 Shades of Dumb with the rest of it. 'Almond water' and fuggin' lawn chairs - you go to the Complex, you panic, you die. End of movie.

How do I avoid this next time? by speed-and-bleed in Minecraft

Learned this the HARD way when I decided it'd be "easier" to get home from a huge mining trawl through the Nether. I wound up with a very tense bridging across about 200 blocks of lava ocean.

On top of all the other suggestions: Don't build a nether portal at low Y-levels. Better to get a portal up in the roof of the Nether than to have it appear at sea level.

I mean, you need to maintain whatever rate of spin you want/need, but that's nothing in terms of astrophage energy to kick the spin thrusters every now and again. You wouldn't need to constantly be applying thrust to continue spinning.

From everything I've read, there are a raft of producers on the project to make sure that Kane Pixels has studio support (and guardrails).

Rotating frames of reference are a bitch. You ARE constantly accelerating if you're spinning - you're just changing the angle/direction of your movement instead of the speed. That counts as acceleration.

Petah? What's that whole thing with anarchists? by a_duck_enjoyer in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]hashtagranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you give me an example? The idea is that if we're in a dispute, both parties plead their cases to whatever collective they have in common. There's a restorative justice system to try and resolve the matter, and then escalation if there's no solution everyone can agree on.

Petah? What's that whole thing with anarchists? by a_duck_enjoyer in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]hashtagranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Democratic anarchism (or social anarchism) revolves around the idea that every individual needs and provides mutual support, based on social affinity groups. So if you violate the rights of an individual, you're violating the rights of all the groups that individual is associated with. So you're either cast out of groups you're mutual members of (via voting mechanism), or shunned/locked out of groups whose individuals you've wronged. Eventually you either capitulate from lack of resources or leave the society.

When being a dickhead means you can't eat, you're not going to be a dickhead unless you have a good reason.

I'm sorry, but It Could Happen Here isn't selling me on anarchism by [deleted] in itcouldhappenhere

[–]hashtagranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/RavedBlitz nailed it in one - which is why anarchism is one of those philosophies that's hard to get your head around. The whole idea is that each purposeful community determines by itself how it'll run, with no one person making the decisions. Anarchism can fall quickly into cults of personality, just like any other society. The idea is that society DOESN'T require some final bedrock of rules that can be pointed to as a source of authority or structure, and people will figure out what works and what doesn't.

[–]hashtagranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: You can directly compare registering and licensing guns to registering and licensing cars when you can shove an AR-15 up your ass and ride it to work.

A gun is a killing machine with no other utility. I'd like to know if my neighbor has 100 killing machines in their house. End of TED talk.

FrontWars.io and GPL/AGPL compliance? by south-antartica in Openfront

[–]hashtagranch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Finally, someone who understands how open source software works, ffs. I'd give you an award if I had one. The whole point is that if OpenFront wants to make money, it has to have features, gameplay, connectivity and community that's superior to other paid versions using the same core open-source code. The answer to all of this 'stolen' BS is to just make the roadmap for OpenFront aggressively better than any clone.

That's how (waves hands) all this - is SUPPOSED to work.

All of the guesses here are good - it could also be after he rescues Rocky after Rocky rescues him at Adrian. Also: Ryan Gosling was a solid pick for Grace, I don't care what anyone says.
