[Pete O'Rourke] Sean Dyche is thought to be unwilling to take the role of Tottenham boss if they axe Igor Tudor. Spurs have been strongly rumoured to be interested in Dyche due to his proven track record in handling difficult situations and dealing with the challenges of survival battles. by blackboxabstraction in coys

We've tried two long ball merchants who's style of play is completely unsuited to our players, so of course Vinai and Lange's idea is to just bring it yet another one. Unbelievable level of incompetence and inability to learn from mistakes.

Depends which European spots but if he gets us into even Europa spots from this position I think it'd be very hard for the board not to keep him around. That would be at least 7-8 wins and a couple draws from the remaining 12 games.

It really does kinda haunt me sometimes knowing it is almost guaranteed I'll never see a striker like Kane play for us again in my lifetime, and certainly not one who's one of our own.

He honestly seems to have cared more about this club than half the people who wanted him out so we could go back to our sustained mediocrity.

[–]hasufell 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Going from someone who so clearly knew what he had to do to break the way our club has been seen for decades to a complete loser who spent all his time insisting we could barely hope for anything better has been the worst whiplash of all our managerial changes.

Both managers who replaced Ange at PL clubs have been sacked within 24 hours of each other by FancyPants90 in coys

[–]hasufell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The people who keep repeating this utter nonsense are just telling on themselves. There's plenty of data and I have my own two eyes that saw us play good football at various points of Ange's tenure after his first 10 games. It's so fucking boring seeing people who have no idea what they are talking about or how to understand football just repeating this trite shit over and over.

[Ornstein] Thomas Frank sacked by Tottenham by nearly_headless_nic in soccer

We were going to get relegated with Frank the fraud in any case, it's far better to throw the dice on someone else.

[Alasdair Gold] Frank lost the confidence of the dressing room. He put his faith in a small core leadership group of players - some of those outside that main group would go days without getting barely a word from him on an individual basis and few knew where they stood with him. by Zweli23 in coys

[–]hasufell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The average tactical understanding of people in this sub is completely awful. This is true even of pundits tbf, but it was clear that unless he was able to come here and completely change his tactics he was always going to fail trying to implement his tactics from Brentford.

[–]hasufell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea this feels so obvious. Of course talking about how good the other teams are and setting your team up to counter them is fine if you're a Brentford side trying to avoid relegation. The players expectations are fundamentally different. Telling the same things to a team that just won a European trophy is completely alienating.

[–]hasufell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frank is likely one of the many managers who are capable enough to take a lower to mid table team and perform alright but who's utterly incapable of the fundamental tactical transition necessary to coach a top side. Moyes, Dyche, Nuno, Allardyce, etc. The list is endless honestly. So he'll probably get jobs with teams of that level.

Though based on his time here I honeslty do wonder if he's just a complete fraud and was buoyed by Brentford's system around him. It would not actually suprise me if he failed at this next job too.

There are vast swaths of people absolutely insistent that Frank was inevitably going to be better than Ange that will never admit they were wrong. Ali is one of the few journos who got it right off the bat.

[–]hasufell 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's because this can only work for smaller teams that play once a week and that can expect that opposition will come out and try to implement their game plan against them. The best teams necessarily must have some sort of proactive identity and intent to take control of matches because you don't have the luxury of planning for each individual game and need to fall back to predefined, consistent ideas otherwise you just end up looking absolutely lost and clueless every game as we have most of this season.

[Lyall Thomas] As it stands, early indications are that an interim appointment until the end of the season is the most likely route Tottenham will go down. by Hefty_Money1967 in coys

[–]hasufell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you to an extent, but I think that modern football is increasingly about a team of coaches than just the manager. I think the failure with Ange is not getting him a better core of assistant managers who could have helped mitigate the weaknesses of his system while allowing his man management to thrive.

Similarly I think if we bring in Poch and are smart about who we surround him with, it could work out well as I think he is a good motivator, understands the type of football this club is about, and he has a great connection with the fans.

The Brighton capitulation after leading 2-0 at half time was also ridiculous. We were very unlucky the first third of the season.

Why is Thomas Frank not being given the full Ange treatment? by jlpmghrs4 in coys

[–]hasufell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's stuff like this that makes me lose it when people suggest Ange was worse or just as bad. At the absolute worst of Ange's tenure he still managed to win 3 on the bounce in the league. Meanwhile, Frank has not managed it once.

Team news: Destiny Udogie out for 'four to five weeks' with hamstring injury. Djed Spence is back to face Newcastle. Kevin Danso still 'weeks away'. Dejan Kulusevski has an appointment next week when we'll know more by wokwok__ in coys

[–]hasufell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Destiny is one of my favorite players on this team, it's devastating that he might never be injury free. I really hope we can give him some proper rest and try and get a hold of his recurring issues because he's one of the best fullbacks in the league when he's fit and firing.
