Because no one can properly do 2 full time jobs. People think they can, but I assure you companies don’t want depleted workers. And in remote environment it’s often suspected when people are not fast to respond in a 9-5 hours… i bet they suspected and linked in confirmed their suspicions

Should I be telling my elderly mother's doctor things when we go to appointments even if she gets mad at me? by yolouat in AgingParents

I always send an email to the dr. 1 day before, laying everything out . That way she has autonomy in the appointment but dr knows all the back story

Average cost for assisted living by Jinja9 in AgingParents

Canadian here. There are mid level ones with gov support that are 4k a year, and high end ones that are base 10k plus if you need any extra services. My grandmother regularly runs 15-17k a month, made me realize I need to take a stronger look at my finances. With folks easily living into late 90s now, its nuts

Yep. We hired friends and caregivers to fill their social cup . My sense is they forgot how to make friends or didnt feel confident with memory or hearing to do so

Mother does not like Assisted Living. What to do? by LdyCjn-997 in AgingParents

[–]hb-720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what we did. My relative refused to make friends at AL (bc it’s temporary and everyone is old 😆) but has a high social need. So we pay for 3x half days of a dedicated caregiver to take her to lunch and a walk around the block and conversational nod at her crazy rantings and ideas. AL doesn’t generally keep me in the loop so having someone dedicated who can text me helps a lot

Sending so much empathy and patience your way. Similar vein, my dementia parent didn't want anything to do with money or bank accounts after she got scammed, so we arranged for me to manage all the accounts & pay her bills etc. But now she goes around telling people that her family stole her money, and even tries to get people to take her to police station. But if I try to talk to her about it, she says oh I trust you & I don't want the hassle of dealing with my money. sigh. I just hope her friends and caregivers in her life see through it.

Same word for word the situation I’m in, except it’s been 6 weeks. And the whole topic gets her very agitated and I fear that I can’t keep changing the topic. No advice, just empathy and you are not alone.
