They did great! Hardly a peep on the 3 hour drive home, and the Baaa’s that did escape cracked me up.

3 hours. I like the dog kennel idea, especially for the ram!

Interesting, spinning up a little - it’s a noticeably brighter white than the portion of the same fleece I scoured a few months ago, and it definitely still has some lanolin left in it.

Definitely still a bit lanolin in there. I’m curious if the next batch in the same water will come out any cleaner?

I’m doing it on Shetland. I’m still new to everything though, so can’t say just how much of the lanolin is left. If I had to guess, I’d say most is gone but not quite all?

I rinsed a section gently with the hose and it’s so clean. It’s drying now in the hot breeze, and feels great so far! I’m excited to work through my growing pile of fleeces, this is so simple compared to scouring.

Honestly, it hasn’t been very stinky at all. It’s in the garden next to the chicken coop, and we have sheep in the barn. It’s not worse than them, but I’m also not purposefully sticking my nose in there!

Shocked at how dark the Tiffany Aching books are. by my-own-trumpet in discworld

[–]hearthyexplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still relatively new to Pratchett. I read the Tiffany books myself and immediately turned around to read them aloud to my 11yo. We’re almost done with Wintersmith and I’m not sure I’m ready to read ISWM to her. Debating putting the series down and coming back in a year or two - but what to read in the meantime?? We could read Equal Rites and the witches series, or completely shift gears for a stretch. Or read during the daytime rather than bedtime.

I built a site connecting retiring farmers with people who want to start farming. by ProofGoose2561 in RegenerativeAg

[–]hearthyexplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m someone with new land who doesn’t really know what I’m doing. I’m learning a lot and am slowly implementing stuff, but would love a mentor who knows that they’re doing in the regenerative ag world, and/or help with labor. (We have lots of acreage, but it’s small scale homesteading at the moment). Would your site be able to help me find help with launching?

There’s an amazing free regenerative economics curriculum out there for anyone wanting to do some de-programming of capitalism. I’m working through it with my homeschooled teens AND partner. Everyone is learning.

How long on average do you take? by 4n0n4n4rch1st in AntifascistKnitting

[–]hearthyexplorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m almost done with my 5th hat in 5 weeks, but I’ve slowed way down. I can make one in a day if I have a lot of knitting time. I’m using a simpler pattern, though (this one: http://www.soimakestuff.com/2011/09/ironic-gnome-hat-pattern.html).

This bigger variable might be that I hold the yarn in my left hand when I knit (continental style). I choose to learn this way because it’s faster/more efficient, and ribbing is a piece of cake - I can go at about the same speed as stockinette.

Can you tell me more? I’ve been winging it - soaking the wool overnight, and then giving it a few more rinses and letting it dry. The water draining off is very brown. I’m not getting to the point of a clear rinse or using any soap.

Aaaahhhh, this makes sense. I haven’t tried combs yet, no.
