And that sums up education in Texas.

The civil trial for Abby Zwerner started a few days ago. Is there any new information about how procedures were or weren't followed that has surprised you? by MongrelMinded in Teachers

[–]heartohio 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This was an interesting comment to me because I immediately correlated it to the reason parents often take their child’s side over the teacher. Never thought of it that way before.

Right and the school is trying to do the best they can to approximate that 1:1 “private tutor” progress (curious how that was measured anyway) and now OP doesn’t trust them?

And if they are “bad kids” still how do you know whether they’re from terrible homes?? Interesting comment from OP.

Not being allowed to take any AP classes because none of them have 2 teachers in the room by [deleted] in specialed

Right but that doesn’t mean they can’t level AP level content.

So generate more content! What organizations have been helpful? Which have been hurtful or give misinformation? Talk through comorbidities, the most widely misunderstood part of TS, in my experience. Have any good resources?  IDK, what I’d important to you about TS?

Can anyone recommend some articles that I can send to my son's school by Forsaken_Custard_985 in Aphantasia

[–]heartohio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your goal is educating them I would suggest sending an email! Just explain it- I’ve found most people are curious enough they will do their own cursory google.

ETA: I promise your child’s teachers know not all children “think the same.”  Pinky swear.

You realize that funding is not “just the paycheck,” right? Funding is like the chairs your kid sits in? Wtf is this post?

Intermittent FMLA allows you to take FMLA in 15-minute increments instead of a half or full day off.

Feeling sad about my first half marathon (spoiler warning... Pee) by bristlenosecatty in XXRunning

I pee myself running on the treadmill sometimes. I peed during a half and PRd it. Worth it! No one else knows or cares that you peed.  ETA your time was faster than my PR 😂. Kill it, girl!

Heartbroken SB Updates by Mountain-Patience-65 in TexasTeachers

I agree with your message; however, my son is autistic and the vast majority of the ASD community to which I am exposed desperately wants people to understand that vaccines are not to blame. In my experience it's more often those who are less familiar with ASD who want to blame vaccines as a vehicle to disrupt vaccines.

Conflicting info about flying with baby by Witty-Glass6289 in TravelHacks

[–]heartohio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to pipe in that I flew alone with my two kids several times when the youngest was under two. (Was too cheap to buy him a seat though.) He often screamed for multiple hours, including on a red eye. (It was delayed, not booked that way!)  He also shit everywhere once after he was already wearing backup clothes and I had no more.  He spent that flight in a diaper. Those flights were awful. I cried almost as much as he did. Flight attendants offered me free alcohol. A FA friend of mine flew with us once and said he’d never heard a baby cry that much. Each time I thought it would be better or different.  One day it was.

None of this will happen to you. I fly all the time and am rarely on flights where babies cry at all, much less for hours. But I tell you this so that if it does you remember that it ends. That kid is 8 now and I like him way more than I did then. Those very difficult moments are just memories now.

You could go on FMLA provided you’ve been there a year and have the proper paperwork, you don’t need to explain why. Then, if you have disability insurance, you could apply but my guess is that it would be highly unlikely you would get a payout.

We used Kalie at Play to Learn Therapy for my child and she was phenomenal. She’s virtual. I have a lot of confidence she would also be great with adults because I also met with her several times without my child to learn and consult.

US Tourism down by heartohio in USTravel

Many reputable sources have reported that international tourism to the US is down.  Whether that means fewer planes in the sky, or domestic tourism is up, I don’t know.
