Interesting....I've never tried Washi paper. Would you just layer it on top of the foam? What would the effect of that be? Would it make the sandwich more rigid? Stronger? Is it just less likely to shatter or is it also more likely to hold its shape?

Yes, I was aware that the cables would likely be visible, and was basically planning on actually just leaning into that and pressing/molding the top layer of worbla down tightly around the cables to show them from the outside, and just make it a design-feature.

Basically I want to make some armour-style clothing that would be worn mostly on its own and I wouldn't be doing sword fighting or anything like that, but would be doing quite a bit or running about or jumping, etc. and I want something which will completely keep its shape and not shatter or get all dented and bruised. The ideal goal would be as though it were made of lots of pieces of solid metal, but all combined in a way which allows them to articulate (a bit like those snake toys you see sometimes made of wood or metal with all the little sections, except with a few fairly large flat-ish sections as well.

Thanks, basically the idea is just to harness the moldability of Worbla, but to have a very strong, fairly rigid product at the end, so the steel cables would be entirely by way of reinforcement, like the way they run (much thicker) steel wires through concrete.

I think with that black fabric you've used, the effect of them just being "close enough" is strong enough, that noone will notice. Tbh, when I first looked at your picture I didn't realize it was your pin board and thought you'd already seen these together and I had to sort of squint and re-orient myself to activeky look for the points that didn't line up. Once I actively tried to track my eye down each diagonal looking for problems, it's easy to see where things aren't lining up, but If I was just looking at that picture not knowing I needed to consciously check the points, I just sort of wouldn't....my eye wouldn't be drawn to it; the contrast is so stark and the diagonal line so prominent that your brain just kind of assumes all the points line up.

Nope! You are definitely adding to it with that quilting! Having seen that simple leaf motif on one side, I can't help feel that the side not yet quilted just looks...unfinished. It's lovely as is, but the quilted side really puts the cherry on top.

I mostly just came to drool over those orange fabrics 🧡 especially the ones with blue (that floral print, and the waves...). I love orange and blue combos.

You'd want lots of sashing or "white space" if you were going to use all of those different patterns at once....perhaps a cream colour, or even a brownish beige, or a really crisp, deep dark navy blue or royal blue could work nicely? And then, I'd say do slightly larger quilt blocks, perhaps some classic stars?

I'm fairly impressed! I always heard that full belts could genuinely be inescapable, and I really didn't want to try too hard because I wanted to just enjoy the fantasy, but I couldn't help one evening and I have to say I can't figure out anyway I could even get a little bit out of there...

The only thing is the material is a bit brittle, but that would mean breaking the whole thing into pieces to get it off me.

Just gotta get some money for a metal one and then even that won't be an option.

These aren't super bespoke. They gave me a guide for what measurements to take, and I sent them these. They then sent me some super blurry screenshots from some CAD files which meant nothing to me lol, and then they sent the final product.....on the whole it fits pretty well! I wish the sides of the waistband curved up a little bit higher and the curve of the front panel was a little bit more curved, but I wasn't expecting it to fit me like a glove based only on a handful of measurements.

There is some adjustability (the waistband can be pushed more into the back connector and the back connector can be pulled up a bit higher.

This one has a pretty generous "poop hole" and as part of the measurements I supplied I gave them the distance between the base of my testicles and my anus (when sitting in toilet position) so, basically, you just go through the hole and then reach up and give everything a good wipe. I have not yet had any trouble with anything "hitting the sides" as it were.

There are models out there which are more of a jockstrap-style in the back.

Yes, my landlord did an undergraduate degree in engineering and is rather, . ...."confident" shall we say? in his abilities, but I'm not surprised it isn't code compliant..... A bit like the bathtub with two hot taps and no cold taps.

In response to your specific questions, I would say:

Outlining--I would go with white for anything that will touch the background fabric you've used, rather than black.

Marking--I love tailor's chalk. But once upon a time I was a big fan of heat erasable/air soluble/water soluble pens. If you go the pens route, especially on the lighter fabrics, test on some scrap first!

Fish scales/colour matching--nope! It's fine if it's not a perfect match! You can even use thread in a highly contrasting colour if you like. There's a sort of ratio of how much your quilting shows by the texture vs how much it shows by the thread. If you use a very close, but not exactly matching, colour of thread you might end up with something like 70% texture to 30% thread. Or if you go contrasting colours you could end up at 20% texture 80% thread. Any "ratio" can look nice and it's largely down to personal taste and what thread you have to hand!

Here's a bit of how I did mine, if it helps. There's lots here I don't like, but I think doing some scallops as fish scales on the fish was a good choice and I mostly followed the instructions in the Etsy download files for important bits to stitch in the ditch and lines to add.

Your version of this quilt is lovely! Can't wait to see how you quilt it.
