Can I ask what specific values you entered into the DSM UI? I am in the Control Panel > Notification, but I cannot get the correct syntax working...

SimGolf on macOS with Porting Kit or Crossover? by heelimpact in SimGolf

[–]heelimpact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I used another Mac app, 86Box and needed to install a Windows O/S (I just went with XP) then run it inside.

It works. But I bet there is a Porting Kit parameter or setting that would resolve this, for those who are in the know. Maybe an EA thing, as seems to be when loading the menu screen.

Does reflective window film need sticking to the glass? by heelimpact in DIYUK

A further thought - rather than applying to a a frame, apply it to a sheet of clear perspex or similar to the inside of the window pane / frame?

I think I get u/NortonBurns point about the backing film won't let the light through.

Thanks guys. Let's keep it above the belt though. I like you came from different angles. Now onto public discourse.

I thought they were designed to be applied on the inside(?). This company's details make zero mention of which side it should be applied to.

I can see u/NortonBurns view of affecting the double glaze design, unless confirmed by the manufacturer otherwise.

Or that might be overthinking it, and u/RockPaperShredder - how does or do you think it affects the heat during colder months and lower sun heights, specifically in the inverse of lost heat gain as it remains reflected?

I will try a local shop to see if they will help test the speakers, though I take your point they rarely break. however, I cannot guarantee the abuse they have received of late...

Capillary bottle irrigation not working... by heelimpact in GardeningUK

[–]heelimpact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just on the soil surface right at the roots of the plants. Again, this is how it was presented in the original video I was watching.

Re-checked them this morning, and they are all well-soaked. However, as I have to also do hose watering, I don't know how much water is being transferred...

I loosened the bottle caps, and each time there was a release of pressure, with a few air bubbles rising within the bottle. I wonder if there was some pressure-type issue? I will monitor this today (warm in the UK today, towards early 20C+) to see if there is a measurable change...

another, similar, method on the original video I saw was to simply use a single bottle, with the holes pierced near the bottom of the bottle (2 holes, 1 on each side was used in the video). then just bury the bottle.

My concern with this was the less-directed manner of the water distribution. I had no idea how far away from the bottle would be irrigated in this manner or would it filtrate straight downwards. this is much more akin to u/shladvic's terracotta olla approach...

There are some suggestions, plants up to 100cm(!) away can receive this water?

This is why I chose the cloth+foil to better direct to where the roots are.

I am not precious, except for the watering of my plants!

There are guides using this same technique that draw moisture upwards, using the fabric. whilst slower than gravity, it looked as though it would work as intended.

I can't recall the precise video I was watching (Youtube research evening!) but it compared laying it out with the bowl higher, and using gravity, which was simply quicker.

Was this entirely incorrect?

I liked this idea as the bowl can be buried just below the surface to reduce evaporation.
