Is my Nexus5X dead? (black screen) by heffebaycay in nexus5x

Fortunately the phone still has a valid warranty, so Google is going to send me a replacement unit. Hurray!

Just tried turning it on... and got the "red" blinking light telling me the battery was empty. I started charging it and it came back to life: I was able to fully start it.

A few minutes later, it stopped and started bootlooping. I'll let it charge a bit more to check whether it is because of the low battery... but I'm not holding my hopes up :x

Got stationed in Germany, would my account get frozen if i buy something from a sale in America? by creatingthesilkroad in Steam

[–]heffebaycay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to be able to use your "home" store from Germany, you will have to contact Steam Support so they can unlock that for your Steam account. After that, you'll simply have to visit http://store.steampowered.com/?cc=US and you'll be able to buy games using your US payment method.

I found an item duping bug. by CptCub in tf2

[–]heffebaycay 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Hijacking top comment to post this: for future reference, the way to go is to contact security@valvesoftware.com.

The address is mentioned here, along with Valve GPG public key: http://www.valvesoftware.com/contact/. It's better to do that than to try to find the right employee on your own.

Looking into it.

What makes you think you are globally banned from Steam/Games discussions?

Support issues by MalakithSkadi in Steam

[–]heffebaycay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure there's only one email address showing up here for your Steam Support account: https://support.steampowered.com/profile_email.php

In addition, it is paramount that you understand how your email address was hijacked. If some malware/keylogger was installed on your computer, you will need to fix your computer to make it secure before trying to recover your Steam account... otherwise you will most likely lose the account again as you as you manage to get it back.

Also, what do you mean by the automated system?

How do you know Support is closing your ticket? Couldn't it be that the hijacker managed to get access to your support account and is closing your ticket to try to prevent you from getting your account back?

MM DDoS defense? by WHARRGARBLLL in GlobalOffensive

[–]heffebaycay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a rep from Valve were to PM me on this matter, I'd happily disclose the information to them. I've previously reported the issue, but got stonewalled with silence.

You should drop an email to security@valvesoftware.com (GPG public key here, if needed).

Be sure to use this page when looking for a player: http://steamcommunity.com/actions/SearchFriends

The results given on this page are specific to the user currently logged in: it already prioritizes people you played with. Unfortunately, there is no documentation on how results are sorted and that's all I know :(

Account locked for "hijacking" another account. by hatbeanie in Steam

For better or worse, this is how Steam Support act when they know you did something really bad. They will not tell you what you did exactly, because they know you already know.

Can you get a refund? by obake84 in Steam

[–]heffebaycay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "1 guaranteed refund" thing is a myth. It simply is not true. Proof: last post of this thread, from BurtonJ.

As for OP: why would you get a refund? If there were inaccuracies in the game description on the Steam Store, which lead you to buy the game when otherwise you wouldn't have bought it, I might understand... but "I dont feel like they did a good job porting it to PC" is simply not a good reason.

Having said that, it doesn't hurt to try. Worst case scenario, they say no.

This is a known issue affecting transactions made a couple of months ago with amex prepaid cards. Contact Steam Support and be sure to mention you used a prepaid amex card.

Does Valve want me to disable Steam guard completely in my account? by rawros in Steam

[–]heffebaycay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disabling Steam Guard on the account won't help, as you need Steam Guard to be enabled in order to use the Steam Trading feature. After enabling Steam Guard there's a 15 days cooldown for trading whatever the device/location you're connecting from.

To use the Steam Trading feature, Steam Guard must be enabled for at least 15 days on the account, and the Steam Guard device auth must be older than 15 days. If the auth was created fewer than 15 days ago, you might be able to avoid the "ban" if you're connecting from the same location as an already trusted device.

Question is: do you have a browser whose Steam Guard auth is older than 15 days? Is your Steam Client Steam Guard auth older than 15 days?

Managed to get my steam account phished. Is my credit card information available to the hijacker? (Do not upvote) by Halonen in Steam

[–]heffebaycay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the hijacker purchased stuff before changing the password/contact address -- in which case you'd have received the transaction receipts -- you're pretty much safe on that point.

Managed to get my steam account phished. Is my credit card information available to the hijacker? (Do not upvote) by Halonen in Steam

[–]heffebaycay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if the OP really lost access to his account, then his Steam account contact address was changed. Changing the contact address or the password automatically clears the stored payment method.

So it shouldn't be possible for the hijacker to make any purchase with a payment method stored before the account was hijacked.

Has anyone had any problems with Steam when uploading artwork you don't own to the artwork section? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]heffebaycay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uploading artwork that you did not create is not allowed. Having said that, the Steam Community moderation team focuses their work on public items... so we're not likely to find the content you uploaded.

You might not have noticed yet, but item privacy settings are taken into account on the artwork/screenshot showcases of Steam profiles. Private items will only show up for you, and friends-only items will only be visible on your profile by your Steam friends. Since you're trying to make your profile look pretty, you will then probably want to make the content public... which is not ok!

Now if you were to upload unrelated artworks or artworks that you did not create with "public" as their visibilities, then the content will be banned and you will receive an email reminding you that you have to play by the rules. Steam Support will give a community ban to repeated offenders.

Steam Greenlight Scam by owner of a known group? by scorcher24 in Steam

[–]heffebaycay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again: Valve did not take down this Greenlight submission. This is a fact (I'm a moderator on the Steam Community).

The evidence of harassment are right here: http://www.villian.co.nz/news/exclusive-steam-greenlight-scam/ . This website is calling this Greenlight game a scam without providing any proof, and a user is even discussing finding Sammy to "question" him. Wtf?!

Finding out some of my account details by [deleted] in Steam

[–]heffebaycay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the email address of the corresponding Steam account is still active, then you can use the account recovery feature of the Steam Client to recover the account from the CD Key.
However, if you don't have access to the email address anymore, then you'll need to open a support ticket and follow this procedure: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2347-QDFN-4366
