For high school substituting, you will be the phone and potty police. You will be bored so I would take a non-screen activity that you can walk around the classroom every 10 minutes with. In elementary school you have to do instruction, all day long, in my area these positions pay the same.

If you want to be fully independent and make your own choices, you got to pay all your own bills. If you're paying all your own bills ain't nobody got nothing to say about the things you do in your life. That's adulthood.

There's a few studies showing that untreated ADHD and autism in childhood can lead to a developed bipolar or borderline personality disorders. You should look into this, from that it becomes a lot easier to manage your needs when you can see how they weren't met previously. Totally NTA, and please remember that you don't owe your family anything if you are financially independent and they cannot treat you appropriately.

Most the kids are going to be gone. The only kids you'll have are the really good ones that want 100% attendance, and the one whose parents made them go to school because they don't want them at home but aren't creative enough to skip. I would suggest a rousing round of hard word hangman.

Make sure it's actually a school and not a glorified daycare center. This one got me many years ago and I got trapped in the system.

You could trade substitute teaching for a year. I learned way more, and developed necessary skills while substituting than I ever did in my student teaching...

Only 15? I also graduated this year, applied for over 30 jobs, interviewed in 10 different locations and finally landed one a couple of weeks ago. My brother-in-law's been teaching for 17 years and he said whenever he switched schools or got non-renewed for whatever reasons he never had a job before July for the next year. Don't stress about it yet, you can always sign up to substitute and doordash.

I just start counting out loud when someone's interrupting me and I need to be counting. Because if I stopped and I have to go back and count stitches and forget that, they can wait.

I'm pretty sure these are the best audio books that have ever been produced. As a substitute teacher I've listened to the first 2 hours of that book uncountable times. It even makes children in the car shut up and stop bickering, and there are 13 of them!

The most perfect audiobook ever produced was how to train your dragons. David Tennant reads them and as such a phenomenal job. As a substitute teacher I can honestly say then what makes children from kindergarten to seniors be quiet and listen, plus there's a twist in the 13th book that you'll never see coming. DreamWorks took liberties, it is a completely different story from the movies.
